The Brussels Atoms Houseleague
team had a very busy week with
three games from Oct. 21 to 28.
In the Oct. 21 game, Elma-Logan
came to town and were quickly sent
packing as the hometown squad
blasted them 6-0.
Brussels took a two goal lead
through the first when Jimmy
Franken scored and Brandon Dixon
followed just 30 seconds later, with
under 10 minutes left in the period.
The second half of the second
brought two more netters by the
Brussels squad when Kyle Stephen-
son popped one in at 12:18 and Jeff
Linton brought the total to four
with a goal at 3:37 left in the frame.
Franken and Dixon each scored
their second of the night in the
dying minutes of third.
Dixon also earned two assists
while teammates Linton, Stephen-
son, Brooklyn Wheeler and Robbie
McClure assisted on one each.
Sean Hoegy earned the shutout.
The two teams met again on Oct.
26, with Brussels travelling to
Monkton.
Despite outshooting the opposi-
tion by almost two to one, the
Brussels Bulls couldn't pull off the
win in the home game against
Walkerton Blackhawks on Friday
night.
Though the two were tied at the
end of the second, Coach Mike
Henry said, the visitors scored the
"killer goal late in the third then
topped it off with another" to glide
to a 6-4 victory.
Henry says goalie Ryan Fisk was
replaced by Jamie Taylor at the end
of the second period as he was
"clearly struggling from the begin-
The Brussels Midgets warmed up
for the regular season with two
exhibition games last week.
They travelled to Blyth on Oct.
23 and came on the losing end of a
very chippy 8-5 game. Mike
Dauphin led the Brussels effort
with four goals. His tallies came at
6:41 and 3:18 of the first, 12:49 in
the second and 10:35 of the third.
The fifth Brussels goal was
scored by Tim Stricker at 2:08 of
the third. Assists were had by
Stricker, Scott Clarkson, Shawn
Nicholson, Clint Fischer and Corey
Newman.
On Wednesday evening, Zurich
came into town to challenge the
boys in what wound up being a
very entertaining game. Trailing
3-0 after two periods, Brussels
came back to tie the game in the
third when Dauphin scored a
natural hat-trick with goals at
10:47, 6:55 and 6:03.
Zurich notched another then
Stricker scored with 17 second left,
trying the game again.
Then in a heartbreaking style,
Zurich scored with only three
seconds remaining to steal away
with a 5-4 win.
Brussels assists went to Clarkson,
Newman, Jeff Lewington, Jim
Once again, Brussels struck first
with a goal by McClure.
The second period brought two
more netters for the visitors when
Franken and Brittany Kellington
bulged the twine. Assists were
earned by McClure, Matthew
Clarkson (two).
The tally was wracked up in the
third when Dixon and Stephenson,
put the puck past the goalie only 28
seconds apart. Stephenson assisted
on the Dixon goal.
To round the score to 6-0,
Hoegy, with assistance from Joel
Hemingway, popped in one more
with just 1:14 remaining.
Wheeler held Elma-Logan off the
board.
Brussels remained undefeated for
the week when they took on Bel-
grave, at home, on Oct. 28.
With Hoegy again in net, the vis-
itors could not push the puck over
the line.
Four Brussels goals were scored
by Tyler Campbell (two), Heming-
way and Stephenson.
Stephenson, Wheeler and Devin
Blake earned assists.
ning".
Despite this it was not a disap-
pointing loss, Henry says, due to
the number of shots the Bulls are
getting. "We actually dominated
this game outshooting Walkerton
43-24. We're just have a finishing
problem at finding the back of the
net."
Scoring for the Bulls was Shel-
don Mustard with two, Aaron Bar-
rie, earning his second of the year
and Darin Alviano.
The Bulls travel to Hanover this
Friday to play the Barons, before
returning home Sunday to face the
Wiarton Wolves.
