Students have first drill
By Betty Bodfield and Amy Ross
On Monday, Oct. 16 we had our
first fire drill. The school's record
time was 40 seconds. Great Job!
On Tuesday, Oct. 17, Grade 7/8
took a trip to Discovery Harbour
and Ste. Marie Among the Hurons.
We thank the teachers and Mrs.
Brewer for taking their time to get
up so early and supervise us on the
trip.
Shannon White said "It was fun,
but a long bus ride. I liked Ste.
Marie Among the Hurons".
Andrew Garland said "It was
very exciting, I learned a lot. I like
Discovery Harbour."
When your little "monster" goes
trick or treating on Oct. 31, Stay
Alert ... Stay Safe (SASS) would
like to remind parents and kids to
turn up their radar and heed the
words of Bert and Gert, the Alert
Twins, to always "stay alert ... and
stay safe."
Here arc some important safety
tips from Stay Alert ... Stay Safe,
the national streetproofing
organization founded in 1987 and
funded through the generosity of
Betty Bodfield said, "It was
educational. I learned that it was a
lot of work living back then."
Mr. Shaw was a visiting principal
for three days, Oct. 17, 18, and 19,
while Mr. Kemp was away at a
leadership course. Mrs. Prior, our
secretary said that she enjoyed
working with Mr. D. Shaw in the
office. Mr. Shaw said, "It was nice
working with and getting to know
the students and teachers at BPS.
Also on Tuesday, Grade 3/4 and
kindergarten B got a free piece of
pizza from the Belgrave Fair
Committee for their great
participation in the fair parade.
On Thursday morning a tree was
transplanted from the front of the
the Canadian Tire Child Protection
Foundation. Parents and kids
should discuss these tips to ensure
a safe and happy adventure on
Halloween night.
• Wear make-up instead of a mask
so you can see properly!
• Go trick or treating with family
or friends. Let people know your
route!
• An adult should check the treats
you collect before you eat them!
• Walk — don't run; and look all
ways before crossing the street -
school to the west side, because the
other two trees were too close and
the tree that we moved would have
died. They moved the tree before
we got to school that morning so
we did not get to see how they
move a 25 foot tree. It left a really
big hole.
Mr. Prior purchased three new
DayTek Choice 2000 computers for
our school library. We are just
discovering what they can do.
On Thursday Janna Spears was in
to Mrs. Perrie's class giving us
some healthy cooking tips. She
showed us food groups, we planned
a weekly menu. We are looking
forward to cooking international
nutritious food.
or treat on one side of the
street, then the other side!
• Only go to homes with their
lights on!
• Don't go anywhere with a
stranger!
• If someone invite you alone into
a house say "No Thanks"!
• A flashlight will help light your
way!
• You'll walk more easily in a
short costume!
• Do you know where the Block
Parent homes are in your area?
