Albertans visit village
Poppy Chairman Gord Jenkins and Campaign Assistant Pat Jenkins would like to thank all
who made the 1994 campaign the success it has been, final calculations indicate gross
receipts approaching $2,776.61 earmarked for service to veterans and their families. As the
1995 campaign approaches it seems appropriate to thank all who donated during the door to

WI discusses consumer affairs
Mrs. Asif Hassun of Oakville ad
Mr. Kim Hasson of Toronto visited
Nancy and Greg Park recently.
Mrs. Allan Shackleton of
Kitchener spent the weekend with
Bernice Anderson.
Mrs. Tom Lawlor spent a few
days with her friends Florence and
Alan Weber of Stratford.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Mallory of
Kirkcaldy, Alberta visited relatives
in Auburn and Blyth last week.
Euchre was held Tuesday
evening, Oct. 10 at the Community
Hall. Winners were: high man,
Lloyd Appleby; low man, Evelyn
Christensen; high lady, Jane
Glousher; low lady, Ferne Howatt;
novelty prize, Lillian Appleby.
Tuesday evening, Oct. 16 euchre
winners were: high lady, Unice
Mr. William Anderson of
Newmarket spent a few days with
his mother Bernice and his western
cousins.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lawlor hosted
a birthday party for their grandson
Anthony Lawlor on Friday, Oct.
20. The rest of his family were also
present. Anthony turned seven
years old.
Bill and Maxine Hill of London
recently visited and renewed
acquaintances in the village.
Arthur; low lady, Ruth Jardin; high
man, Jane Glousher (playing as a
man); low man, Tena Empey;
novelty prize, Ferne Howatt.
Being as Halloween is on Tues-
day, Oct. 31 the euchre party will
not be, but will be the following
Tuesday evening, Nov. 7.
The October meeting of the
Auburn Women's Institute was held
on Thursday, Oct. 19. Family and
Consumer Affairs was the topic
with Betty Archambault as
convenor.
Members gathered at the
Community Hall and went to
Goderich to tour the new Children's
Aid building. The meeting was also
held there.
Joan Van Den Broeck, a social
worker, gave a talk on the work and
volunteering of this society. She
stated at Christmas time last year,
Rev. Paul Ross led the
anniversary service at Knox Church
and Nancy Park was organist.
Londesboro United Church joined
the service, which opened with
Invitation to Worship.
Rev. Ross gave prayers. The
children's hymn was The Church is
Wherever God's People are
Praising, followed by choral
response. Children's time took
place and the children's chorus
sang. Scriptures were read.
Nancy Park and Jake Middle-
kamp sang two selections.
1,100 children received gifts
through the Christmas Bureau.
The children are also sent to
camp through help. She explained
how to become a volunteer and
what you have to know.
She gave out some brochures and
led a tour through the building.
Tena Empey thanked her.
The meeting then began in the
usual manner. Tena Empey, the
president, opened with a poem "Just
A Laugh". The minutes were read by
Marion Haggitt and the treasurer's
The guest minister, Rev. Bill
Breanahan's meditation was "Don't
Give Up." Prayers of thanks and
concerns were given followed by
The Lord's Prayer in unison.
The offering was received and
dedicated in song. Closing hymn
report given by Rhonda Bruxer.
The reports of the 44th rally, held
at Gorrie, was given by Jean
Plaetzer and Maureen Bean.
Members found them most
interesting. Marion read the
correspondence which was
discussed.
Knitted 3" and 4" squares are
needed for Zambia.
Designing a tea towel for the
W.I. was also discussed.
Grace was said and everyone
went to Tim Horton's for a light
lunch.

The singing of Amen's concluded
the service.
Lunch was served down in the
basement and a social time
enjoyed.

district who may require the use of them. A special thanks goes out to all the Business Clubs and people who have supported
The Blyth Legion Branch 420 Poppy Campaign in the past. Also thanks to the Legion members who have assisted in making
this one of the best poppy campaigns ever. Poppy Week will start November 1st to November 11th.
