THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 18, 1995. PAGE 3.
The 1995-1996 Scouting year is
well underway.
At the swim-up ceremony Sept.
26 four boys moved from Beavers
to Cubs, and two boys moved from
Cubs to Scouts. To date,
registration is down this year in all
sections in Blyth.
The new Scouting year was
initiated with a campfire gathering
at Benmiller, Saturday, Sept. 30.
Excellent weather prevailed as
members of both Blyth and Clinton
Guiding and Scouting enjoyed the
evening, along with their parents.
Because the new Cub program
includes two new stars this year,
there will be lots of new material
for the boys to work on. Because of
the excellent fall weather, one of
the first meetings involved a bike
hike. There are plans for several
camps, and also an evening
working with computers.
Scouts have already started to put
the 'out' in Scouting. During the
summer they helped with the Blyth
Creek Rehabilitation and banded
ducks at the Hullett Wildlife.
Since registration, meetings have
been held in a large tee-pee set up
at the home of Scouter Lavern
Clark. Scouts had an early bird
camp at Benmiller Sept. 30, and
plan to attend B.P. Woodsman
Camp, Oct. 20-22.
Thanks to the efforts of Erica
Clark there will be an all-girl Rover
Crew in Blyth this year under the
leadership of Arden Scott and Irene
Arenburg.
All sections are currently selling
Scout calendars to help raise funds
for camping activities and
equipment.
Oct. 28 has been designated as
