The news from L Compiled by Patty Banks Phone 887-6860 Trio plays prelude at Duff's Well folks, for this past week it looked like the Walton school had gone to the turkeys! Every class had done some kind of turkey work, from turkey booklets to pine cone turkeys. The kindergarten class shared photographs and items that they were thankful for and made paper plate turkeys with volunteer helpers Krysta Stanley and Karen Braecker. The class also played turkey games and sang turkey songs. The Grade Is have been exploring the fall season with all their senses. They used different Rev. Paul Ross conducted the Thanksgiving service at Knox United Church and Nancy Park was organist. The sanctuary was beautifully decorated with flowers, fruits, vegetables and coloured leaves. The Invitation to Worship was read alternately followed by the opening chorus. The Prayer of Approach was read alternately. The senior choir sang a Thanksgiving anthem. Hymns We Praise You, 0 God and We Gather Together were sung. Rev. Ross's meditation was "Fresh Bread" and the children passed around fresh bread. techniques with leaves to explore colours eg. splatter painting, sponge, eyedropper and print making. They tested raw vegetables with their taste buds for healthy snacking foods. In the Grade 2 class the students used plasticine to make maps of the school. They got to spend time on the Icon computer for the first time. In Grade 3 they learned about the Pilgrims and about Thanksgiving. They made little stick puppets and put on little plays about Thanksgiving. The Grade Is and 4s had local Hymn Let All Things Now Living was sung. Rev. Ross gave prayers and The Lord's Prayer was repeated in unison. The offering was received by Peter Verbeek and Gordon Gross and Joel Arthur and Graham Worsen and dedicated in song. The closing hymn was We Plough the Fields and Scatter. Rev. Ross pronounced the Benediction. Knox United Church will celebrate its anniversary Sunday, Oct. 22. Londesboro congregation will join in the service. The guest speaker will be Rev. Bill Bresnahan of Lucknow United Church. Viola Kirkby was greeter at Duff's United Church Oct. 8. A musical prelude was offered by Margery Huether, Phyllis Mitchell and Glenda Carter. Andrew McDonald was chosen to light the Christ Candle, beginning the service. The choir sang Flowers Will Bloom in the Desert and Don McDonald later sang a solo. Rev. Randy Banks made note of the flowers that were placed at the front of the church by Margery, John, Steven Huether and family in memory of Ray Huether and his parents; and Nancy Larone and Ruby and Watson Webster. Received into the Church of Jesus Christ by Holy Baptism were Abby Quinn, infant daughter of Brian and Shelley McGavin and Jacob Jeffrey, infant son of Jeff and Shannon McGavin. Brandon McGavin helped out with the baptismal service by pouring water into the font. After each baptism Clerk of Session Leona McDonald introduced the babies to the congregation. People There were three door prize winners at the Walton dance last Friday. The box of chocolates went to Wilma Maddess; the stuffed bunny to Campbell Wey and the Christmas candles were won by Emerson Mitchell. After a delicious turkey dinner Wednesday night the Walton UCW ladies were led in worship by Heidi McClure and Karen Hoegy. Patty Banks introduced guest Continued on page 19 Awarding leadership and courage The students of Walton Public School were presented with certificates for their participation in their own Terry Fox Run . Walton PS is the only school in the area which holds their own event to raise funds for the Terry Fox Foundation. Prinicipal Helen Crocker, left, presents Sallianne Patch, co-ordinator of the Brussels run, with a cheque for $108, raised by the students. Ricky Pethick accepted the certificates from Patch, on behalf of all the students. Walton Public School news Pupils learn about pilgrims artist Kerni Bachert come and show them a few techniques in painting. From the paintings that I saw I can see that there are some budding young artists in the works. The Cross County Team members have been picked and are gearing up for the run on Oct. 18. Andrew McDonald, Adam McClure, Josh Gowan, Tyler Elligsen, Robert Johnston, Tina Smith, Melissa Beuerman, Jennifer McClure, Lindsay McNichol and Krista Shortreed are the runners. Walton Public School gave a cheque of $108.47 to Brussels Terry Fox run. The students each received a Terry Fox certificate. Mrs. Crocker said that she was very proud of the children and thought that they did very well.
