Point Carpet Cleaning Guarantee"
TAKES THE MYSTERY
OUT OF CARPET CLEANING
Prior to cleaning, our technician will determine any problems you
have such as stains, odours, etc. He will then advise cleanability
and exact price.
Prior to cleaning, we will move furniture, but ask that you move
small breakables such as plants, lamps, etc. Your traffic areas will
be pre-vacuumed utilizing our mobile cleaning units (all the dust
goes outside for improved indoor air quality.)
All traffic areas are pre-conditioned to break down the soil. Special
attention is given to heavily soiled areas such as high traffic areas
and in front of doors.
The latest truck mounted steam cleaning equipment is utilized for
thorough deep down cleaning. Special attention is given to
heavily soiled areas. Optional Scotchgard is then applied. All
soiled water is extracted back to our mobile cleaning Oant and
taken away.
The fibres are PH balanced to eliminate any residue which
causes premature re-soiling and also makes the fibres soft.
The fibres are groomed for appearance as well as to expedite the
drying process. Your furniture is placed on protective pads.
Drying time is 4 -18 hours depending on the type of fibre, severity
of soiling and outside humidity.
- POST QUALIFY: After the cleaning, our technician will discuss the cleaning results,
any permanent staining.

Make a list for fall projects
Cool autumn breezes should
remind new homeowners to prepare
their homes against the wintry
weather that is just around the
corner. Select one of these pleasant
fall days and organize a compre-
hensive check list of several key
areas to inspect inside and outside
your home.
Proper maintenance of a new
home not only protects one of life's
largest investments but ensures
homeowners receive all the warranty
coverage offered by the Ontario
New Home Warranty Program
(ONHWP). Problems caused by
homeowner neglect, such as allow-
ing caulking to wear down leading
to moisture damage, are not covered.
New homeowners can start from
the bottom of the house and work
up when performing fall mainten-
ance on their homes. Choose a dry
sunny day to open up and air out
your basement and crawl spaces to
prevent mold and mildew from
accumulating in the basement.
Before the cold weather sets in
and your heat is turned on, have the
furnace and humidifier serviced by
a qualified professional. Areas
around the furnace, registers and
condensing unit should be cleaned
to eliminate dust and dirt.
Concerned homeowners should
carefully examine their heating
systems to determine if the trade
names are printed on their plastic

ed one of the ultimate soil condi-
tioners. Compost is the best way to
add texture and nutrients to your
soil and can conveniently be
produced in your own backyard.
Compost, also called humus,
results from the decomposition of
such organic materials as leaves,
grass clippings, wood chips and
twigs as well as eggshells,
vegetables, coffee grounds and
other kitchen scraps.
To make composting easier and
more effective, horticulturalists
recommend using a special con-
structed outdoor container. These
bins are made of durable, recycled,
black plastic that won't crack, rot,
fade or rust. They are designed to
allow proper air circulation and
moisture to enter the pile, both of
which are essential for quick
decomposition.
Compost Activators
While compost decomposition
will occur naturally, adding a
compost enhance will speed up and
facilitate the process. An acceler-
ated breakdown generates addi-
tional heat, which effectively kills
roots and weed seed. The end
product is a fine finished humus
that will not encourage the growth
of unwanted plants or weeds when
added to garden beds.
venting systems. Use caution when
examining the plastic vents for
cracking or separating at the joints
since they may be extremely hot
when the furnace is running. Faulty
vent systems allow the escape of
flue into the house. Exposure to
this colourless, odourless, poison-
ous gas can cause headaches,
nausea and in extreme cases, death.
If your home has a mid-effciency
furnace with any of the three plastic
vent systems call the Ministry of
Consumer and Commercial Rela-
tions' Mid-Efficiency Furnace Line
1-800-785-6588 to receive a
brochure by registered mail.
Also, have your chimney and'
venting system checked to ensure it
is in safe operating condition.
Where applicable, exhaust ven-
tilation fans and heating recovery
ventilators should be checked and
oiled according to manufacturer's
instructions to ensure efficient
operation. In the kitchen, your
range hood filter requires a
scrubbing with mild soapy water to
prevent grease build-up. Regular
cleaning of the range hood
eliminates potential fire hazards.
Windows and doors should be
examined for gaps of air infiltra-
tion. Homeowners can stop cold
drafts from entering the house by
applying weatherstripping around
doors and windows and ensuring
the seal is snug.
Outside the home, check exterior
finishes. Homeowners should look
for signs of moisture penetrati
wood sidings. Watch for paint that is
blistering and peeling. If left
unresolved, this problem can lead to
water seeping into the house interior.
While inspecting outside window
finishes, check the caulking for
signs of deterioration. If it is wear-
ing down, remove and recaulk with
a good quality caulking compound
to protect against moisture and cold
air entering the home.
Eavestroughs, gutters and down-
spouts should be cleared of any
obstructions including leaves,
branches and debris. If drainage
from the roof is hindered, a back up
under the shingles can occur caus-
ing leakage into the house interior.
Keep window wells free of leaves
and debris which may interfere
with the proper flow of water to the
footing drainage system. Lot
drainage systems such as swales
and catch basins are designed to
direct water away from the house.
These systems must be maintained
by the homeowner.
While walking around your
property, examine your driveway
and walkways for cracks.
Immediately repair any cracks you
discover before water penetrates,
freezes and expands into larger,
more expensive problems.

home maintenance is contained in
