DANIEL LOUIS BEUERMANN
A young Brussels man lost his
life tragically on Tuesday, Sept. 26,
1995 as the result of an industrial
accident.Daniel Louis Beuermann
was 22.
Quiet and friendly Dan enjoyed
life to the fullest. He had a wide
circle of friends and was an active
sports enthusiast. He played in both
the Brussels minor hockey and
baseball systems and was most
recently a member of the Interme-
diate Crusaders.
There was a less seen, sensitive
side to Dan, however. He could
"sing like a bird", and family
friends remember him as always
being responsible, a silent hero,
who, at a young age, climbed out a
window onto the roof of his house,
jumped to the ground then drove to
get help when his family's home
was on fire.
A graduate of F.E. Madill Sec-
ondary School, Dan attended Fan-
shawe before going into his father's
contracting business. Just before
his untimely death, he was begin-
ning a new phase in his life, having
recently purchased his first home.
Dan will be lovingly remembered
by his mom and dad, Joan and Neil.
He was the very dear and special
friend of Erin Johnston of London
and the loved brother of Brad,
Randy and Josh, all at home.
Dan was the beloved grandson of
Nora Stephenson. He will also be
THE EDITOR,
Once again, Huron County
taxpayers are about to get the short-
end of the stick. If amalgamation of
school boards, as proposed in the
Sweeney report goes ahead, we are
in trouble. By linking the Huron
and Perth public boards, Huron
County taxpayers will have only
three representatives instead of the
current 16. If you have concerns
about your education tax, you will
no longer have a local trustee to
contact. Likewise, parents with
complaints will have no local
recourse.
Huron and Perth are the lowest
spending public boards around. As
long as education is financed with
local property taxes, things can't
improve. There is nothing to gain
by merging the poor with the poor.
The creation of county boards in
1969 was supposed to save money.
We all know what happened. The
creation of "super boards" will lead
to the same kind of increases.
We spend only 3.5 cents of every
dollar on head-office administra-
tion. In some large boards, it is
claimed that less than 1/2 the
dollars are spent in the classroom.
Amalgamation may reduce
spending in some high-cost boards,
but those of us already at the lower-
end will no doubt see costs
escalate.
We know that 'made-for-Toronto'
solutions should not be applied
across the province. A better

to live in the past and hope to
survive in changing times. And
though many of us do not like the
prospect, perhaps there is a lesson
there for us all.

cousins.
He was predeceased by his
grandparents Doc Stephenson in
the latter part of 1994 and Orville
and Margaret Beuermann.

Home last Thursday. A funeral ser-
vice was held at 2 p.m. on Friday at
Brussels United Church. Rev. Cam

Greg Wheeler, Andrew
McCutcheon, Jeff and Chris Mus-
selman, Brian Taylor and Mark
McClure.
Carrying floral tributes were

McCutcheon, Blair Davidson and

Though Dan's passing came too
soon there is comfort in knowing
he is happy with Grandpa Doc and
the other boys from Brussels, who
will also be forever young.
In lieu of flowers donations may
be made to Brussels Minor Hockey.

solution for Huron is to keep
working at building partnerships.
That is where the real tax savings
will be made. Trustees in Huron
have already shown leadership in
cutting costs.

education spending would be well
advised to investigate the real costs
