Highlighting this week's new releases are three excellent films. First up
is The Madness of King George **** (Malofilm), a wonderful film that
lies halfway between farce and tragedy. The film stars Nigel Hawthorne
as George III (1760-1820), whose erratic and bizarre behavior might well
have cost him the throne of England. Nominated for numerous Academy
Awards including Best Actor and Supporting Actress, this film is highly
recommended. (Rated PG)
Johnny Depp may not be as high a profile star as the likes of Kevin
Costner, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone or Mel Gibson, but
most of his films and roles are a dam sight better. Case in point is Don
Juan DeMarco ***1/2 (Alliance), a delightful romantic comedy/drama
about an aging psychiatrist (Marlon Brando) whose life is changed by a
young man who claims to be the reincarnation of the world's greatest
lover. Recommended! (Rated PG)
Also well worth your time is To Live **** (Alliance), a sweeping story
that follows one Chinese family through civil war, the Great Leap
Forward and the Cultural Revolution. Highly recommended! (In Chinese
with English sub-titles / Rated PG)
Among the other new releases available this week is Jefferson in Paris
(Touchstone), an historical saga chronicling the legendary American's
romantic and politically-charged years in pre-revolutionary Paris.
Produced by the prestigious filmmaking team of James Ivory and Ismail
Merchant. (Rated PG)
Moving to what appears to be the bottom of the barrel you will find The
Jerky Boys (Touchstone), an alleged comedy about two nit wits who make
prank phone calls. (Rated R)
In Number One Fan (Orion) a young woman's obsession with a sexy
Hollywood star leads to murder. (Rated R)
Rob Lowe and Bill Paxton star in Frank and Jesse (Malofilm) another
account of two of the most famous outlaws in history. (Rated R)
In the classic movie department is a selection of interesting titles
featuring two of Hollywood's legendary leading ladies. Carole Lombard
was as gifted an actress and comedienne as she was beautiful, and today
her legacy endures, thanks to the magic of the movies. Among the titles
fresh from the Universal vaults are Hands Across The Table (1935) and
The Princess Comes Across (1936), both co-starring Fred MacMurray, as
well as Supernatural (1933) and No Man of Her Own (1933) with future
husband Clark Gable.
Among the five titles in the Barbara Stanwyck collection are All I
Desire (1953), Remember The Night (1940), The Great Man's Lady
(1942), Interns Can't Take Money (1937) and one of my favourite The
Lady Eve (1941) a delightful comedy about a seductive cardshark, who
fleeces a millionaire played by Henry Fonda. This is one of director
Preston Sturges best screwball comedies. Each film sells for $14.95 or
less.

Teams set for tourney
By Nathan Garland and
Joshua Gropp
We at BPS are grateful for the
$333.75 donation received from
Mr. and Mrs. Teeft as a result of
collecting IGA tapes last year. This
money will be put towards our
computer and technology
programs. Mrs. Cousins is
continuing to co-ordinate the
program this year. Collection
envelopes are in each classroorri.
Next week, the school will be
picking stones for the soon-to-be
baseball diamond/spccer field. We
were supposed to do it on Friday,
Sept. 24, but due to the rainy
weather conditions, it was set for
next week.
On Monday, The Grade 7s and 8s
will be going back, for the second
great year, to Tech 21. Many kids
are looking forward to either going
there for the first time or coming
back again.
On Tuesday, the North Huron
Soccer tournament was held at
Grey Central. We hope everyone
had fun. The team members of the
boys soccer team include Tyler
Bragg, Andrew Grant, Jared
Cardiff, Andrew Garland, Patrick
Gilkes, Stephen Todd, Joel
Kellington, Joshua Gropp, Josh
Jorritsma: Chris Mason, Mark Kroll
and Nathan Garland.
The girls soccer team consists of
Stephanie Patch, Nicole Bernard,
Trish Teeft, Amanda van Beek,
Amy Douma, Amy Ross, Judi
Bondi, Sarah Seeds, Kate Kuepfer,
Krissy Dilworth, Katie Clark,
Shannon White, Andrea Bernard,
Nicole Lowe, Patricia Wilbee and
Cassie Bootzin.
Last Friday, Brussels' own
librarian, Mr. Prior, was rewarded
with a certificate from the Board of
Education for his excellent work
for designing the new computer
report card system. During the
assembly, students and teachers
sang pioneer songs School Days
and The Blacksmith.
Mr. Kemp was in a trio with Mrs.
Speers from the Parents Associa-
tion and Mr. McDonald, the trustee,
singing School Days. The Grades
6-8 made for history class and for
the fair Pioneer Life projects. They
ranged from The Blacksmith to
Field Drainage to Preserving Food.
There were lots of exhibits at the
fair this year. We would like to
congratulate the winners and
everyone who participated.
Thursday, Sept. 28, the Brussels
Parents Association is having the
"Fall Frolic."
"Spring Fling 94," was a huge
success, bringing in a lot of money
for the benefit of our school.
Available at the Fall Frolic will be,
cotton candy, bowling, face
painting and lots of other great
activities. It will start at 6:30 p.m.
and will go until 9 p.m. We hope to
see you there.

TIPS
(NC)—Selenium, an essential
mineral, is also a valuable tool in
cancer prevention. One study after
another has shown that high intake
of selenium lowers one's cancer
risk. Optimum total intake (from
food and supplements) is at least
200 to 400 micrograms daily.
Vitamin E boosts selenium's health-
ful properties.
