Farmers lobby

Ontario farm organizations in their
campaign to make the new PC
government aware of the folly of a
continuation of major cuts in
agricultural spending at a time
when the industry is on a roll.
"After years of uncertainty due to
trade wars and international
negotiations, farmers are in the
mood to invest in their industry and
their communities. If this
confidence is eroded, the
agricultural economy will stall
again, with massive consequences
to the Ontario economy," said Gary
Ireland, chair of the Ontario
Agricultural Commodity Council
(OACC).
"The agrifood industry may not
be as sexy as some of the newer
boom sectors, but it is a constant
source of new wealth creation,"
said George. ''Our campaign at the
IPM will get the message not only
to the provincial government, but
to the thousands of consumers who
attend the event. Keeping his
promise to agriculture, means
Premier Harris can keep rural
Ontario strong."
