B elgrave Many attend Belgrave WI The news from Bill and Muriel Coultes have returned from their trip to Labrador and Newfoundland. Rev. Ann Corbet hosted them in North West River and Rev. and Mrs. Paul Hutchison in Happy Valley, Goose Bay. They met with the UCWs in both places where they shared their stories of the low level test flights taking off from Goose Bay and the Coultes trip to Korea. In St. John's, Newfoundland Muriel attended the National Consultation of Women while Bill was able to spend two days with Dr. Ron Taylor, formerly of Be!grave. They also met up with Mr. and Mrs. Bev Brooks of London (Mary Ann McKibbon) at a bed and breakfast and did some sight-seeing with them. On Sunday, Sept. 24 Shannon Marie Vincent, daughter of Neil and Joan Vincent and Laura Lee- Anne Higgins, daughter of Bruce and Kim Higgins were welcomed into the community of faith through the sacrament of baptism in the Calvin-Brick United Church for the Vincent baby and Knox United Church for the Higgins baby. The Belgrave Women's Institute meeting was held on Thursday, Sept. 19 with a large number of members and friends present. The meeting opened in the usual manner with Dorothy Coultes chairing it. Gladys VanCamp was the pianist and she was also the convener for the meeting. The topic was "Family and Consumer Affairs." Gladys read a poem and then she welcomed the guest speaker. Wilma Scott who spoke on flower arrangements. Wilma had brought along a number of beautiful arrangements, which she had made By Mike Procter, Paul Walker and Amy Barnes GRADE ONE Grade 1 has been learning the colour words and mixing colours together to make other colours. They started reading from their readers recently and are very keen Wawanosh. HUSKING CORN Class 10. She then made more arrangements, while giving those present a number of helpful tips on cutting, spraying and drying flowers and foliage. Wilma then donated two of her arrangements to those having a birthday or anniversary nearest that date. Gladys thanked the speaker and presented her with a small gift on behalf of the group. She then read a poem entitled "Don't be Afraid to Fail", which was well received. During the business part of the meeting Dorothy gave a report on to share their stories with you. We are doing "All About Me" centres and learning lots of things about ourselves. Each week during the year, one child will be chosen to be "Super Kid" and will make a bulletin board about themselves with pictures, souvenirs and toys. We hope Staci Dunbar had a great birthday on Sept. 12. KINDERGARTEN NEWS The 11 junior and 21 senior kindergarten students in Mrs. Wilson's and Mrs. Daer's classes are having lots of fun using both new and old equipment and toys in their fabulous new kindergarten room. Miss Mathers and the Grade is join both classes in the afternoons to work at nine different learning centres on the theme "All About Me". Here they learn more about themselves, their family, their friends and their classmates. Many of the students enjoyed marching in the parade at the school fair as well as winning lots of prizes for their exhibits. Everyone is looking forward to the "Get Acquainted Barbecue", Sept. 28 when they can show their parents and friends the new classroom and what they have learned already. THE GRADE 2 NEWS The Grade 2s have been doing a lot of things since school started. They have been studying snails. So far they have been drawing and labelling snails and making a the WI summer activities. Diana Robinson, secretary/trea- surer, read the minutes of the previous meeting and reminded members of the upcoming events. Kay Roberts, on behalf of Ada Taylor, read about further meetings associated with the Historical Society. Grace and The Queen were sung and delicious desserts and beverages were served by Audrey Fenton and Wilma Higgins. The next meeting will be held on Oct. 17 at 8:15. The topic will be "International Affairs". The guest speaker will be Joan Peterson who will show slides on Hawaii. habitat for them. They also have been doing puppet plays. The Grade 2 class has reading and writing packpacks. A different student takes them home each night. They are making life size portraits of themselves for the Open House Barbecue on Thursday, Sept. 28. OTHER EVENTS AND INTERESTING FACTS Many students at EWPS won prizes for their work at the school fair. One very special winner was Gavin Van Camp who had the most points for his work. Gavin graduated last year from EWPS but still put forth an effort in the school fair! This year many classes marched in the parade hoping to win the prize of a free pizza lunch. The winner was Grade 6-7 which accompanied their marching with a high spirited chant. In other events EWPS is holding an open house which will take the form of a Get Acquainted Barbe- cue. The staff will be barbecuing hot dogs and hamburgers. Pop, doughnuts and coffee will also be served. It will be held on Thursday, Sept. 28 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. We hope all of you can be there! A very special thank you goes out to Murray and Joyce Vincent for providing our school with their tractor and wagon for the School Fair parade. Your generosity was certainly appreciated.
