Students and staff at Walton Public School weren't just
out enjoying the sunshine last Friday, but were actually
participating in their very own Terry Fox Run. The
students walked, ran, hopped or skipped around the
schoolyard for half an hour, raising $96.47 to be donated
towards cancer research. Prior to going outside they
watched a video presentation on Terry Fox and his
Marathon of Hope.

HU offers rabies clinic
The Public Health Inspection
Department of the Huron County
Health Unit, in co-operation with
the veterinarians in Huron County,
are hosting a low cost Anti-Rabies
Vaccination Clinic on Sept. 27 and
30. The cost of vaccinating a dog or
cat for rabies will be $10 including
GST.
For more information, call the
Huron County Health Unit at 482-
3416 or 1-800-265-5184 and ask
for the Public Health Inspection
Department or call the local
veterinarian. Pet owners in Huron
County are reminded that it is the
law (Ontario Regulation 567/90)
that owners of dogs and cats three
months of age or over, are required
to be immunized against rabies.
In addition to organizing these
In reviewing two applications,
one for a building permit, the other
for a garden suite, Hullett council
accepted the first and denied the
second, at the Sept. 5 meeting.
The building permit for south
Part Lot 36, Conc. 12, which
required a zoning amendment, was
approved.
The garden suite application for
North Part Lot 36, Conc. 10, was
special clinics annually, the health
unit also provides Human Diploid
Cell Vaccine (through family
physicians) for persons who have
had direct contact with an animal
that develops rabies. One way to
avoid having to take the series of
rabies vaccination shots is not to
handle any animals suspected of
having rabies, and make sure that
all cats (including those in the barn)
and dogs are vaccinated annually
against rabies.
The anti-rabies shots for cats and
dogs in Huron County is mandatory
under the Ontario Health Protection
and Promotion Act. When a dog or
cat is involved in a biting incident,
the animal must be quarantined for
10 days to determine if it has been
exposed to the rabies virus by
turned down.
Road superintendent James
Johnston was given authorization
to advertise the White 244 tractor
for sale, once appraisals had been
obtained.
The gravel pit at Part Lot 13,
Conc. 2 will soon have a gate, after
council instructed Johnston to have
Pete DeJong build one.
Hullett council supports Ashfield
Twp.'s request for a full evaluation
observing if it develops symptoms
and dies. If the dog or cat's anti-
rabies vaccination is current, the
odds are it will be healthy at the
end of 10 days.
Proof of vaccination must be
shown to the public health
inspector who is investigating the
biting incident and has quarantined
the dog or cat. Failure to provide
proof may result in a charge being
laid and a fine of up to $5,000 for
the pet owner.
Vaccinating your dog and/or cat
against rabies costs much less than
requiring rabies vaccine for a loved
one.
The Brussels clinic will be Sept.

of alternatives to landfills.
The road account and the general
account was approved for payment
in the amounts of $14,174.40 and
$86,169.24, respectively.
At a special meeting held on
Sept. 8, council hired Larry
Mayberry to construct a council
table for the municipal building, at
a maximum cost of $4,500 plus
taxes.
