This looks more like a confrontation rather than a friendly
game of slowpitch. Kevin Pennington just makes it back
to base before the second baseman can put the tag on for
the out. The two teams were playing in the Crusaders
tournament in Brussels this past weekend.

Monkton scored once in the
bottom of the sixth but the Tigers
quickly added one more in the
seventh for a 6-2 lead.
In their season's last at bat the
Monkton offence came alive

Tigers' defence bent, it did not
break.
Uhrig, who pitched the win, was
helped offensively by a four for

Should the public pay for the
collapse of a house built on sand?
— University of Guelph geographer
Barry Smit says no. He believes
Canadians should rethink govern-
ment policies offering compensa-
tion for damage caused by weather
conditions. It's time to accept the
reality of climatic variability and
stop compensating those who
ignore it, he says. At a time when
tax dollars are stretched to the
limit, government policies still
support risks such as building
property in flood-prone areas and
growing drought-prone crops in
high-drought areas. Smit suggests
homeowners who build on the
banks of rivers and prairie farmers
who ignore climatic trends should
not be compensated from the public
purse. Call Barry Smit at Ext. 3338.
