Veal prices strong, beef average $80 to $108
$74 to $105.50; 700 - 799 lbs., $80 $104; 400 - 499 lbs., $77 to $93;
to $104; 800 - 899 lbs., $84.25 to 500 - 599 lbs., $72.50 to $97.50;
$96.50; and 900 lbs. and over, 600 - 699 lbs., $70.50 to $94.50;
$85.25 to $98. 700 - 799 lbs., $77.50 to $94.50;
Heifers, 300 - 399 lbs., $78 to 800 lbs. and over, $77.50 to $87.
Sales at Brussels Livestock for
the week ending Sept. 8 were: fed
cattle, 498; cows, 167; veal calves,
159; sheep and goats, 104;
stockers, 1083; and pigs, 67.
The market at Brussels Livestock
saw fed steers and heifers selling
$1 higher. Cows sold fairly steady.
On Thursday veal sold on a good
strong trade. Lambs sold steady.
Friday saw the stockers selling on a
strong active trade.
There were 299 steers on offer
selling from $82 to $85 to the high
of $102.75. Fifty-eight steers
consigned by Cunningham Farms,
Lucan, averaging 1,314 lbs. sold
for an average of $83.79 with sales
to $90.50. Nine steers consigned by
Jim Howatt, Londesboro, averaging
1,367 lbs. sold for an average of
$86.05 with sales to $89.50.
Twenty-five steers consigned by
Allglad Farms Ltd., Lucan,
averaging 1,340 lbs. sold for an
average of $84.42 with sales to
$88.75.
Seventeen steers consigned by
Alton O'Neil, Lucan, averaging
1,321 lbs. sold for an average of

before a compromise was found,
Kelly said.
"We can't keep spending this
kind of time and this kind of money
and this kind of aggravation," he
said. "If you want free enterprise
then let us get on with it."
That's not to say that farmers
aren't interested in clean water and
fish habitat but the rules need to be
interpreted in a reasonable way,
Kelly said.
Also speaking at the meeting was
Douglas Lisle, recently appointed
general manager of OFA after a
quarter century working in various
ag-food positions in government
and the private sector.
In his first speech to a county
federation Lisle said he was new to
the job but looking from outside
the organization he knew the OFA
was admired and was the envy of
every non-profit organization for its
stable funding.

fanner ask for his $150 stable fund-
ing fee back. The criteria of OFA

- there are no other products we
