Sales at Brussels Livestock for
the weck ending Sept. 1 were: fed
cattle, 486; cows, 208; veal calves,
179; sheep and goats, 133;
stockers, 949; and pigs; 185.
The market at Brussels Livestock
saw fed steers and heifers selling
under pressure at prices $3 lower.
The cows sold $1 to $2 lower. On
Thursday the top quality veal sold
very active with the plainer veal
selling steady. The lambs sold
steady. On Friday the stocker
calves sold lower with the yearlings
selling steady.
There were 352 fed steers on
offer selling from $82 to $85 to the
high of $95. Twenty steers
consigned by Kada Farms,
Blucvale, averaging 1,372 lbs. sold
for an overall average of $84.46
with sales to $95. A Charolais steer
consigned by G. A. Stewart Farms,
Ripley, weighing 1,285 lbs. sold
for $94, with their total offering of
forty-five steers averaging 1,221
lbs., selling for an overall average
of $85.21. Forty steers consigned
by J. A. McCann & Sons Ltd.,
Ailsa Craig, averaging 1,344 lbs.
sold for an average price of $84.21,
to the top of $90. Forty steers
consigned by Cunningham Farms,
Lucan, averaging 1,348 lbs. sold
for an average price of $83.91 to
the high of $89.
Eight steers consigned by
Howard Martin, Brussels,
averaging 1,413 lbs. sold for an
average price of $82.56 with sales
to $87.75. Twenty-three steers
consigned by Murray Forbes Farms
Ltd., Clinton, averaging 1,397 lbs.
sold for an average price of $83.64
to the top of $87.50. A red steer

1,385 lbs. sold for $85.25 with their
total offering of thirteen steers
averaging 1,403 lbs. selling for the
overall price of $82.15. Forty steers

$86. Twelve steers consigned by
Johnston Farms, Bluevale,
averaging 1,306 lbs. sold for an
average price of $82.78 with sales
to $85.75.
There were 114 fed heifers on
offer selling from $82 to $85 to the
high of $90.25. A Hereford heifer
consigned by John Smuck,
Wingham, weighing 1,015 lbs. sold
for $90.25 with his total offering of
eleven heifers averaging 1,132 lbs.

OFA hosts
meeting
The Huron County Federation of
Agriculture (OFA) is hosting its
annual regional meeting on
Thursday, Sept. 7 at 8 p.m. at
Hullett Central Public School in
Londesboro.
The purpose of the meeting is the
election of the new regional
directors for the four different
regions in Huron County. The four
regions include Huron Central
(McKillop, Hullett, Tuckersmith,
Stanley), Huron Northwest (Morris,
Grey, Howick, Turnberry), Huron
Northeast (Ashfield, Goderich,
Colborne, - East and West
Wawanosh) and Huron South (Hay,
Stephen, Usbome).
The directors for each of these
regions are expected to attend the
OFA board of director meetings
and report back to the county level
at the monthly Huron board
meetings.
Also at this meeting elections
will be held for delegates to attend
the OFA annual convention in
Toronto from Nov. 20 to 22. Any
OFA member is eligible to run for
election for regional director as a
convention delegate.
The guest speakers will be Doug
Lisle, the new general manager of
the OFA, and Ken Kelly, the
- second vice-president of OFA.
