WARNING!
BE ON THE LOOK OUT...
School's back in session and
in the excitement of the new
school year, many school-age
children, especially the
young ones, may forget to
look both ways when
crossing the street or exiting
the school bus.
That leaves it up to you as a
driver, to be extra careful
around schoolyards, neigh-
bourhood play areas, and
departing school buses.
So remember...when you see
yellow, be sure to see red - as
in red alert. Let's all slow
down and give our children
the chance they deserve.
CODE OF CONDUCT FOR STUDENTS
1. Arrive at your pick-up point on time. Bus
scheduling is such that the drivers cannot wait for
pupils who are late.
2. Take you seat promptly and remain seated until
you arrive at your destination, unless otherwise
directed by your driver.
3. Hold books and lunch boxes on your lap or on the
floor at your feet, never in the aisle where they
may trip someone.
4. Skates, when carried on a school bus, must have
skate guards or protective material in place.
5. Keep your arms and head inside the vehicle at all
times.
6. Never interfere with emergency doors/exits or any
part of the vehicle equipment.

7. Unnecessary disturbances (opening of windows,
wrestling, eating, smoking, obscene language or
any other form of misbehaviour) will not be
tolerated at any time.
8. Obey directions and instructions of the driver
and/or bus patrol promptly.
9. Refrain from talking to the driver while the bus is
in motion, except in case of an emergency.
10. Never leave the bus at any stop other than that
predetermined by school or parental permission.
11. Riding a school bus is a privilege! This privilege
can be withdrawn.

The Walton Sports Club will be
hosting a Community Beef BBQ
down at the Hall on Sept. 16 from
4:30 to 7 p.m. Everyone is
welcome to come out and enjoy the
evening.
Vera McDonald and Shannon
Davies were greeters at Duff's
United Church on Sept. 3. Rev.
Randy Banks welcomed everyone
back from summer holidays. He
announced that Sunday School will
be back in full swing next Sunday.
The theme for his children's story
and sermon was 'Humility'.
Canvassers for Arthritis will be
out in the Walton area in the next
week or two.
The Walton WI met in August at
the home of Leona McDonald.
Mrs. Yvonne Kitchen, chief of
nursing staff at Seaforth hospital,
was the guest speaker. She spoke to
the ladies about the importance of
having someone they trust set up a
power of attorney for personal
health care. For more information
on the subject 'personal health care'
directives can be obtained from the
local member of parliament.
Members discussed plans to visit
the technical center and food
service option at the Clinton high
school. This is in regard to a letter
sent to the WI by Paul Carroll to
see if the group would be interested
in taking a look at the programs
and offer any financial support.
The Guelph area WI Convention
will be held in Arthur, Oct. 4 to 5.
The theme for 1995 is 'Safe and
Happy Communities'. Ideas for
activities to promote this theme
would be welcomed. Contact
Marjory Humphries for more
information.
School begins
Well it's that time of the year
again when the relaxed(?) easy way
of life comes to a close and it's
back to school lunch making,
homework, a regular bedtime and
no more sleeping in!
The teachers at Walton Public
School have been busy all week
preparing their classrooms in
anticipation of the arrival of their
eager young students. There have
been a few changes in staff since
last year. Susan Elston will be
teaching kindergarten and Brenda
Vivian will have the Grade 2 class.
The school also said 'goodbye' to
secretary for seven years, June
Johns. She says that she will miss
everyone so much. She said that
she gets so attached to all of the
children, but she will be kept busy
helping her husband farm and will
continue her hobby of porcelain
painting. Mrs. Wilson will be the
new secretary.
Meeting
at wildlife
centre
Come, let your ideas fly at a
meeting of people interested in
developing a business implementa-
tion group for Hullett Provincial
Wildlife Area.
The gathering will be an opportu-
nity to play a direct role in the com-
munity development of the area
and to bring a business-like
approach to this operation.
In taking steps towards making
Hullett Wildlife Area a financially
sustainable area, the group is also
looking for a person with business
sauve to volunteer as the director of
the business implementation group.
The meeting is scheduled for
Thursday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. at the
Hullett Wildlife Area office.
