Farm Safety Assoc. sends warning to motorists
The Farm Safety Association has
issued a warning to motorists to be
aware of the possibility of coming
upon slow moving farm equipment
during the present harvest season.
A number of serious accidents
and deaths have resulted from
motor vehicles colliding with slow
moving farm equipment. In such
collisions deaths have occurred
both to the farmer operating
equipment and to the occupants of
the motor vehicles.
When a driver comes over the
crest of a hill at 80 km. per hour
and sees a farm tractor travelling
ahead at 25 km per hour, there are
only 6.5 seconds to react to avoid
collision. Every driver should stay
alert and use particular caution
when going around curves or over
hills in farming areas.
Farmers should make themselves
as visible as possible. By law, a
slow moving vehicle sign is
required on the rear of a tractor or
London was selected according to
current and future operational
needs. Factors considered in the
site selection process included:
centrality, transportation access and
proximity to services and related
government operations. In view of
current fiscal constraints, only
existing government-owned
properties were considered.
OMAFRA prepares leaders
The provincial ''Leadership in
Action" program will be offered

experiential leadership training

London home to regional OPP
OPP Commissioner Thomas B.
O'Grady announced Aug. 14 that
London will be home to the OPPs
new Western Region Headquarters.
The Western Region is one of six
operation regions which will
administer provincial police
services under the new OPP
organizational structure, establish-
ed in February. Western Region
will incorporate former OPP
Districts No. 1, 2, 6 and part of
District No. 3.
An agreement in principle has
been reached between the Ontario
Realty Corporation and the City of
London to acquire the former
Westminster Municipal building
for the new regional headquarters.
Commissioner O'Grady said
The program allows present or
future directors, chairmen, staff and
committee members, from a variety
of organizations, to learn and share
about topics like public speaking,
volunteer management, effective
meetings and conflict resolution.
All costs of meals, accommo-
dation and resources are covered by
your $250 registration fee and the
sponsoring Ministry of Agriculture,
Food and Rural Affairs.

Lighting is also required for travel
after dark.
Farm implements can be
overwidth and obstruct vision, and
as slow as they travel, they do have
a right to be on the roadways..
Exercise caution when travelling
this summer.
