Thousands came to see at least some of the races during this four day event. The final swim meet of the summer for the BMG Barracudas was held in Godcrich on Aug. 12. Team members competing at the meet were Jessica Spink, Aaron Richmond, Michelle DeWit, Rachel Elliott, Matthew Elliott, Katie Clark,, Cassie Bootzin, Ashley Gropp, Cynthia DeWit, Christina DeWit, Lisa Blake, Stacy Hahn, and coach Jay Hahn. The team's hard work and training resulted in 67 points and a 10th place finish. The relay teams were the top point-getters for Brussels, as each Barracuda relay team swam to a top five finish. The open girls relay team, consisting of Cynthia DeWit, Stacy Hahn, Lisa Blake and Christina DeWit, placed fifth in their freestyle relay and fourth in their medley relay. The 13 and 14-year-old boys relay team of Matt Elliott, Cassie Bootzin, Katie Clark, and Ashley Gropp placed fourth in the freestyle relay and third in the medley. Jessica Spink, Rachel Elliott, and Michelle DeWit teamed up with a In the first game of a best of three series, the Belgrave Bantam boys ball team met a tough oppo- nent in Seaforth when the visitors came to town on Aug. 16. Seaforth jumped to an early, though short-lived, lead in the top of the first, scoring two runs. Belgrave retaliated with two of their own when Luke Lockridge and Jamie McCallum crossed the plate. The opposition struck for three in the second while holding the home- town boys scoreless. Trailing 8-2 as they took to the Bulldogs out The Brussels Tigers eliminated the Bulldogs from playoff action Friday night with a 6-3 win. The Tigers won the series two games to one and advance to the North Division final against either Belgrave or Monkton. Todd Uhrig reached base on all four attempts while Brett Clarkson and Doug Shaw each batted three for three. Uhrig was the winning pitcher with a 10 hit, seven strikeout performance, while Dave Smith and Mike Watson shared the Bulldogs pitching giving up 11 hits. The Tigers opened with single runs in their first two at bats then scored three in the fifth for a 5-1 lead. The Bulldogs had the tying run at the plate in their last at bat before Uhrig convinced Brian McArter to ground out and end the game. In the -series, Uhrig batted seven for 10 with four homeruns and seven RBIs, while Doug Shaw was seven for eight and Brett Clarkson four for eight. For the Bulldogs, Andrew McCutcheon was six for seven and Dean Rutledge four for seven. swimmer from Clinton and placed third in the nine and 10-year-old boys freestyle relay. Once again, Jessica Spink swam extremely well and brought home three ribbons from her individual races. Jessica placed second in both her freestyle and her back crawl races, and later swam to a third place finish in butterfly. Ashley Gropp also made an excellent showing at the meeting, bringing home two relay ribbons and two individual ribbons. Ashley placed fifth in her back crawl race, and then, competing in butterfly for the first time, Ashley placed fourth. Coach Jay Hahn also swam in the meet and placed third in both freestyle and breaststroke, fourth in back crawl and second in butterfly. The entire Barracudas team had a terrific first season of swimming. Since their first practice in June, all Learn members have shown steady improvement as a result of their hard work and determination, and the BMG Barracudas are already looking forward to another promising season next summer. bats in the bottom of the third, Bel- grave captured the lead for the first time in the game, belting in seven. There is a $10 registration' fee to cover ice time, but players are guaranteed four and a half hours of ice time. Times are as follows: Aug. 25, 7 - 10 p.m.; Aug. 26, 1 - 4 p.m.; Aug. 27, 1 - 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1 is the annual rookie game with Seaforth at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2 the veterans will be back in camp. Other exhibition games scheduled include Sept. 9 against New Hamburg in Waterloo; Sept. 16 against Kincardine in Seaforth; Sept. 22 against Kincardine in Kincardine and Sept. 24 against New Hamburg in Seaforth. Coaching staff is - Head Coach Jim Bridges' Assistant Coach, Mike Henry, General Manager Ken Ball, Assistant Manager Joe Kerr. The bulls are still looking for a qualified trainer to help with the team this year. Another change this year will be that the Bulls will no longer be affiliated with the Listowel Cyclones. A meeting Monday, Aug. 21 is scheduled to finalize a New Affiliation with the Kitchener Dutchmen Jr. B club. McCallum. However, the squad could not defend against the strong hitting of Seaforth. Six runs scored in the top of the fourth and Belgrave could not counter. Seaforth overtook Belgrave 14-9.
