On Aug. 2, the Bantams contin-
ued league play, hosting Wroxeter
in a slugfest.
Wroxeter jumped to an early
lead, bringing in four in the first
and holding Belgrave to two. The
game was tied at the bottom of the
second when Wroxeter tallied two

With one out Bryce Wedow got a
triple, then scored on Matt
McCall's single.
Belgrave got three runs that
inning. With one out Robert Kerr
got walked, then scored on a bunt
by Steve Todd. Belgrave came
back with two more runs that
inning.
In the third Brian Oldfield
squeezed out a double then Andrew
Garland got a walk. Belgrave was
shutout that inning. In the fourth
Brussels scored no runs despite two
walks. Belgrave managed to get
two more runs that inning. In the
fifth Oldfield walked, then got
gunned down trying to steal.
McCall hit a powerful blast to get a
triple, then Garland singled to score
McCall. Rob McKercher doubled
after that. Belgrave was again shut
out.
In the last inning Oldfield,
McCall and Garland all walked to
load the bases. Tim Harrison hit
and he hit a single to score
Oldfield. Kroll was the last run for
Brussels. The game ended 7-3
Belgrave to take Belgrave to a 1-0
lead in the series.
The second game was in Brussels
for what turned out to be a double
header. The first inning went very
well for Brussels, who shutout
Belgrave. Oldfield was walked,
McCall pulled out a single and
Philip Leger secured a single. Then
Chris Coulter walked to score
Oldfield.

Muriel Coultes, leader of the
evening UCW group welcomed all
the celebrants and guests and read
out the names of over 40 guests
invited. Only half of those invited
were able to attend but many other
residents were present.
Gord's Old Tyme Orchestra
entertained with several numbers to
open the program. Gordon and Ron
McBurney, Arnold Bruce, Alex
Robertson, Jack and Audrey Adair
were accompanied by Mary
Coultes.
Karin Marks played two numbers
and Belgrave rallied for four.
The first six runs were "cored by
McCallum (two), Walker, Gamiss,
Rob McGee and Mike Sanders.
Belgrave took the lead for the
first time in the bottom of the third
when four runs were notched by the
feet of Burkholder, Barfoot, McGee
and Jeremy Campbell.
McCallum added another in the
fifth, bringing the score to 11 to 8.
Again Belgrave's defense let up,
allowing six in the sixth.
With the offense was unable to
recover, the hometown squad fell
14-11.
Brussels shutout Belgrave again
in the second inning. Then, with
one out. Todd singled to score
Frankin before Belgrave broke
Brussels shutout with one run.
Belgrave then obtained another run
then got another in the fifth.
In the bottom of the seventh
Brussels was down 3-2. Todd
secured a single, then Oldfield got
a double. With two out Leger hit a
deep single and Todd and Oldfield
came around to score.
Brussels won that game 4-3 to tie
the series 1-1.
Game three was right after game
two in Brussels.
In the first inning, both teams
including a home run by McCall
for Brussels got three runs.
Belgrave got two runs in the
second while holding Brussels.
In the third, Belgrave and
Brussels each got five runs.
Belgrave was shut out in the
fourth while Brussels gathered up
six runs. Wedow walked, Todd
singled, Oldfield walked, McCall
singled, Garland singled, and
Michael Walker singled. Chris
Coulter singled but was stranded.
In the sixth Belgrave got four runs
to tie the game 14-14. Leger
singled, Garland singled, Walker
walked, then Kerr walked to score
Leger to win the game and series
for Brussels.
The next series starts on
Wednesday, Aug. 16 in Millbank at
7 p.m. The team would like to
thank Rob McKercher for coming
to the last two games even though
he couldn't play due to a sprained
thumb.
