Brussels
Doreen Dale and Mildred Jacklin
returned home on July 30 after
spending a wonderful week's
holiday touring around the Gaspe
Peninsula with Travel Ventures of
Kitchener.
After being picked up in
Waterloo at 6:45 a.m. on July 24
and gathering the rest of the
passengers, they continued to
Gananoque for lunch and arrived at
the motel in downtown Montreal at
4:35 p.m. They were scheduled to
spend some time at the Montreal
Casino after dinner, but due to the
strike were taken on a city tour
instead.
Leaving Montreal on Tuesday
morning at 8 a.m. they arrived in
Quebec City in time for lunch.
After a guided tour of the city and
the Plains of Abraham, followed by
a delicious dinner, they retired to
the suburban motel at 9 p.m.
They spent an hour on
Wednesday morning around the
parkway at Montmorency Falls
which are 98 feet higher than
Niagara Falls. Travelling along an
older, very scenic, highway they
stopped at the well-known
"Maries" outdoor brick bread ovens
and lunch room and munched down
a tasty one inch thick slice of fresh
warm buttered bread covered with
Marie's own homemade cinnamon

Taking a tour
Elsie Cunningham, 101, takes a jaunt around the grounds at Brussels Huronlea last week
with Donna McCone and Angel a four-year-old miniature horse owned by McCone and
Butch Elliott. The couple, who live in Clinton, have been bringing the horses to Huronlea
annually to give the residents of the county home for the aged an enjoyable, relaxing
interlude.

honey butter. The family business,
established in 1652, is now
managed by the fourth generation.
At Baie - Ste - Catharine they
boarded a tour boat at 12:30 for a
three hour whale watching cruise to
the mouth of the Saguenay River. It
started pouring rain, the wind got
up, the waves along with it and
they were having a rocking good
time. "Lucky for us we didn't get
sick and we saw several Belluga
Whales," the women said. "We
were glad to get off the boat
though".
After returning to St. Simeon on
the north shore of the St. Lawrence,
they took the ferry over to the
Riviere-du-Loup on the south
shore.
After waking to a beautiful sunny
morning, July 27 they travelled the
picturesque coastal highway around
the Gaspe Peninsula where Jacques
Cartier landed in 1534 and claimed
the territory for France. After
driving through the beautiful
Appalachian mountains rising to
heights of 4,160 feet they arrived at
the motel in Perch at 6:15 p.m.
Later they saw the glorious sunset
over the great expanse of water on
Chaleur Bay. Dinner and breakfast
were included with this motel
which is situated on the main street
in full view of Perch rock and
Bonaventure Island.
After breakfast they were taken
on a cruise all around the island
and close to the rock. The gannets,
which fly up from Mexico in April
to nest on the rocky ledges and
crevices of the cliffs, number close
to 60,000. They mate for life, lay
only one egg each pair and nest as
close together as peas in a pod, but
all live in harmony with each other.
Many of the cliffs are solid white
with birds. They return to the same
