Australian pastor preaches Sunday in Blyth Greeters for the service at Blyth United Church Sunday were Joanne McDonald and Lenora Davidson. Ushers were the Wharton family, Jack and Agnes and Rick and Laurie (Wharton) Van Wyk. Guest minister was Mr. George Cowan. Mr. Cowan led an impressive service expressing his pleasure in being invited as guest minister again. Preceding the hymn Dare to be a Daniel, Mr. Cowan told the children the story about Daniel in the lion's den, how God shut the mouth of the lions to protect Daniel. George Cowan and Cheryl Cronin sang a duet, Have Thine Own Way, Lord, accompanied by Phyllis Boak on the organ. The sermon was entitled, "In the Footsteps of Jesus". Mr. Cowan spoke about his trip to the Holy Land, visiting Damascus, Syria, Jordan, Bethlehem, and the Sea of Galilee. He said, "We don't need great wealth or power to serve God. We have to forgive before we are forgiven. Director of Education Dr. James Brown will convey his congratula- tions to the students of St. James FRED HELLINGA Fred Hellinga of RR1, Londes- boro died at Clinton Public Hospi- tal on July 26, 1995. He was 59. A Londesboro Twp. farmer, Mr. Hellinga was born on Nov. 27, 1935 in Driesum, Friesland, Hol- land. He was the son of the late Henry Hellinga, who passed away in 1969 and his wife, the former, Getje Damstra, now of Egmondville. On March 19, 1957 Mr. Hellinga married the former Sally Wybenga in Jarvis, Ont. He was a member of Blyth Chris- tian Reformed Church. Mr. Hellinga will be missed by his children, Pat and Ralph Datema, Clinton; Gertie and Her- do.' Following the sermon, Mr. Cowan sang, Because He Lives. Rev. Ian Diamond, the exchange minister from Australia, was seated in the congregation with his wife and two little sons. He will start next Sunday. Everyone is looking forward to having him and his family in the community. The stewards are organizing a fundraising yard/garage sale for Threshers Reunion weekend Sept. 9 and 10. HPRCSSB makes staff changes With one school year at an end and another soon to begin, the Huron-Perth County Roman Catholic Separate School Board made several staffing adjustments at the end of June. Those awarded probationary con- tracts are: Jeannette Groenstege, Sheri Lyn Kelly, Catherine Buchanan, Lori Lynn Stapleton, Tracy Klaver, Kristen Schefter and Craig Campbell. The probationary contracts of Steve Lane and Karyn Collins were increased while Gerry Thuss's sta- tus changed from probationary to permanent. Three teachers assistants were hired, Trina Sweet, Cheryl Ann St. Onge and Colleen McGregor. Jim Gaylor and Barbara Bauer- Maison were appointed to three- year terms as department heads. The resignation of Uylond Lynch was accepted as was a temporary leave of absence request from Car- olyn Wilson from Jan. 30, 1996 to Aug. 31, 1996 and a deferred salary leave plan for Nancy Holmes, run- ning from Sept. 1 to March 14, 1996. The 1995/96 board and occasion- al teachers collective agreement was approved. Adrian Van Gest officiated at the funeral service held on Satur- day, July 29 at Blyth Christian Reformed Church. Flowerbearers were Kim and Charlene Greidanus, Sarah Datema, Katie Kaastra and Amanda Haak. Carrying Mr. Hellinga to his final resting place at Clinton Cemetery were Wilfred and Frederick Datema, Henry and Ed Wybenga, Ed Salverda and Robert Anderson.
