Brussels Livestock report Cattleprices drop $1 to $2 Sales at Brussels Livestock for the week ending July 21 were: fed cattle, 472; cows, 141; veal calves, 214; sheep and goats, 214; stockers, 613; and pigs, 80. The market at Brussels Livestock saw fed steers and heifers selling $1 - $2 lower. Cows sold steady. On Thursday veal sold steady. Lambs sold on a strong active grade. On Friday stockers sold very strong. There were 268 steers on offer selling from $86 to $90 to the high of $98. Thirteen steers consigned by Carlyle Thomson, Parkhill, averaging 1,293 lbs. sold for an average of $89.19 with sales to $98. Four steers consigned by Aaron Fischer, Ayton, averaging 1,232 lbs. sold for an average of $92.10 with sales to $94. Eleven steers consigned by Bernard O'Donnell, Arthur, averaging 1,298 lbs. sold for an average of $81.02 with sales to $93.25. Eight steers consigned by Irvin Schenk, Petersburg, averaging 1,347 lbs. sold for an average of $88.36 with sales to $93.25. Stockers, 400 - 499 lbs., sold $104.50 to $129.50; 500 - 599 lbs., $87 to $120.50; 600 - 699 lbs., $72 to $111; 700 - 799 lbs., $101 to $106; 800 - 899 lbs., $91 to $111; and 900 lbs. and over, $88 to $106.50. Heifers, 400 - 499 lbs.,. sold $85 to $105; 500 - 599 lbs., $85 to $107; 600 - 699 lbs., $85.50 to $99; 700 - 799 lbs., $79 to $95; 800 - 899 lbs., $86 to $98.25; and 900 lbs. and over, $65 to $105. Doug Richards of RR 2, Ailsa Craig is newly appointed as swine advisor in the Clinton OMAFRA Field Office covering Huron County. He began his duties July 17. Richards has had extensive experience in the swine business and production management. He is a 1980 graduate of the University of Guelph with a major in. Agricultural Economics and a minor in Animal Science. He has been the manager of a purebred swine breeding operation near Brussels, the swine breeding stock and marketing manager for Quality Swine Co-operative near Shedden, and, has had experience with a swine equipment manufacturer. He was a lecturer at Centralia College of Agricultural Tech- nology, a facilitator in swine nutrition management and swine housing with OATI and a counsellor with the Farm Family Advisor Program.
