skills. On Tuesday, July 25th, 35 staff members attended a
Workshop, "Building Winning Working Relationships" conduct-
ed by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural
Affairs. The day was packed full of information and fun to help
us strengthen our "people" skills.
STAFF BID FAREWELL TO CO -WORKER: It is with
regret that we announce the resignation of Dorothy Drake,
Occupational Therapist. We wish Dorothy all the best in her new
position in Oxford County Home Care Program.
RECREATION COMMITTEE NEWS:
BARBECUE DAYS: The delicious aroma of grilled hamburg-
ers and fried onions greeted visitors at the noon hour Wed., July
19. Thanks to the Recreation Committee and the men (Don
Matthews, Don Hulley, Ron Drager, Jack Bedard) who were put
in charge of barbecuing a superb lunch - including dessert (ice
cream cones) for the staff. Due to the great success of this event,
another barbecue is being planned for August.
A bus trip to Toronto to see "Beauty and the Beast" in October is
being planned. It's not too early to think about booking costumes
now for the Oct. 28th Hallowe'en Dance Party at Seaforth

tasks that are to be done and the
volunteers sign up for the ones for

In addition to outside chores, the

Clarke. "Or sometimes we just sit
and talk with them."

Teaming up with SWAT
You'll recognize them, either from their black shirts with The Ark logo on the front and the
fluorescent lettering on the back, or the way they scurry around town from job to job. The
SWAT (Students Working Around Town) Team in Brussels is an enthusiastic group of 20
12-15-year-olds who are making the most of their summer in a productive and community-
minded way.
By Bonnie Gropp
When you wonder what the idle
youth are up to this summer, you
might want to take a look around
the village of Brussels.
The Ark's summer SWAT (Stu-
dents Working Around Town)
Team has been busy with such
tasks as neighbourhood clean-ups
and fence painting, and having fun
doing it.
"It has been a great way to help
other people, meet new people and
get away from summer boredom,"
says team member Katie Kuepfer.
Co-ordinator Wendy Martin says
that was the reason for starting
SWAT, to provide work experience
in an entertaining way.
The idea has definitely caught
on. "We started with a goal of 15
kids. We now have 20 on the team
and a waiting list of people who
want to be on," Martin says.
"It has been a great way to get
out of the house and do some-
thing," said Sarah•Seeds on her rea-
son for joining the team.
