Summer brings family visits
Twenty-five Edgar relatives held
their annual reunion at the Belmore
Community Centre on Sunday, July
9. Following the sports and prizes
which were given by Mr. and Mrs.
Rollie Thornton of Kincardine,
Rev. Bill Henderson gave Grandpa
Edgar's blessing and all enjoyed the
smorgasbord supper. After the pot
luck supper the president, Mrs.
Elva Jacques of Gorrie conducted
the meeting.
After discussions during a public
session of Morris council on June
22, decisions were made regarding
two zoning amendments.
With no objections from the
gallery or the Huron County Health
Unit, and approval recommended
by the county planning department,
council passed a bylaw permitting
the rezoning of North Part Lot 10,
Conc. 4, belonging to Bodmin Ltd.
The rezoning, from General
Agriculture to General Agriculture-
Special Provisions, will recognize
the property as legal non-comply-
ing, due to its smaller size of only
86 acres, as a result of severance.
The present bylaw requires a lot
size of 94 acres.
The second zoning amendment
for consideration was as a result of
new Minimum Separation Distance
formulas released by the Ministry
of Agriculture, Food and Rural
Affairs.
The formulas will revise the dis-
tance requirements between agri-
cultural and non-agricultural uses.
The planning department had no
objections to the amendment, as the
bylaw conforms to the township's
secondary plan.
The passing of a bylaw was
deferred for amendments.
Ratepayer Deborah Himmelman
addressed council regarding a letter
received from the Ministry of
Transportation in Ottawa, concern-
ing the zoning of the Wingham air-
port development.
The letter suggested that the
owner should obtain required land
use zoning for the property.
The matter will be investigated
The decision regarding the
acceptability of an earthen lagoon
versus a concrete tank was deferred
by West Wawanosh council after
holding a committee of adjustment
hearing, July 4.
The application for a minor vari-
ance to allow a liquid manure stor-
age lagoon was filed by Wayne
Bos.
A discussion, involving Bos,
neighbour Walter Stalenhoef, plan-
ner Brian Treble and Chief Build-
ing Official Joe Hanna, covered the
pros' and cons of an earthen and
concrete facility.
The committee of adjustment
deferred its decision until more
information could be obtained
regarding the respective prices and
the expressed requirements for an
environmentally approved earthen
Mrs. Irlma Edgar, secretary-
treasurer of Wingham read the
minutes of the 1994 reunion.
President for 1996 will be Mrs.
Elva Jacques, Gorrie. Secretary-
treasurer is Mrs. Bill Henderson of
Lucknow.
Relatives attending were from

by Planner Craig Metzger, who will
contact the municipal office prior
to the next council meeting.
Council will forward a letter to
the Brussels, Morris, Grey Commu-
nity Centre board advising them
that the township has no further
concerns regarding the drainage
proposal for the centre, once a site
plan for water into the Nichol
Drain-Branch C is received.
Clarence Yuill will be sent a let-
ter from council requesting permis-
sion to construct the fish habitat
compensation works on his proper-
ty at Lot 15, Conc. 4. The work is
to be done at the request of the
Ministry of Natural Resources.
The township will include in the
1996 budget, monies for the instal-
lation of air conditioning in the
municipal office and council cham-
bers. The work would be done in
the spring of 1996.
Several road issues were reported
by Road Superintendent Lloyd
Michie.
Since Farris Construction is haul-
ing gravel from the Dan Lichty site
on Conc. 7, to Grey Twp., it was
felt that the township should be
asked to spread chloride on the
road.
The paving of Centre Sideroad is
completed for 1995.
Michie also reported that the
remainder of the stop signs would
be installed and that grass cutting
has begun.
Council had no objections to the
selling of lottery calendars by the
CNIB or Huron Tourism nor to a
Monte Carlo licence for the Wing-
ham Optimist Club.
lagoon.
Applications were received from
45 prospects for the position of
clerk-treasurer/tax collector for the
township. The names will be short-
listed at which time interviews will
be scheduled for late August.
A complaint regarding the con-
travention of property standards at
a location in Auburn will investi-
gated. Hanna was instructed by
council to serve notice to the own-
ers.
A bylaw was passed to authorize
improvements to Murray Municipal
Drain.
The Huron Plowmen's Associa-
tion was granted $50.
The road and general accounts
were approved for payment in the
amounts of $21,437.76 and $18,
549.48, respectively.

Belgrave
Kinsmen
buy hotel
Soon, the village of Belgrave
may have a new feature on its main
street, but just what form that fea-
ture might take is yet to be deter-
mined.
The Belgrave and District Kins-
men and Morris Twp. council have
agreed upon a deal which will see
the township accept ownership of
the old Belgrave Hotel property for
the Kinsmen, who will pay for the
purchase.
Council, advised on June 22 that
the Kinsmen had put in an offer on
the lot, were asked for their support
for the project.
"We don't have a specific idea in
mind for the property yet," says
Kinsmen Kevin Pletch.
"There are 30 members and prob-
ably 30 different ideas. We will
probably get the public involved as
well. We hope to have a plan by the
end of hily, when we take posses-
sion."
A bylaw was passed at the July 4
meeting of council to proceed with
the plan, which will see the town-
ship donate $5,000 to the project as
well as loan the remaining funds
required for the purchase, if need-
ed.
Any loan, along with any expens-
es or interest incurred through the
purchase of the property, will be
repaid, by the Kinsmen to the
township.
"The purchase of the Belgrave
Hotel property, will close on July
17," says Morris Clerk-Treasurer
Nancy Michie.
Another step was taken by coun-
cil to allow development of the lot.
Council agreed to commence pro-
ceedings to rescind a bylaw which
established the hotel as a heritage
site.
