Jeff McGavin, Graeme Craig, George Townsend and Don Dodds were off to Cookstown this past week to participate in a plowing coaching and judging seminar. The event was sponsored by the Ontario Plowmen's Association. The seminar was conducted by Robert Timbers, who is on the Wold Plowing Council. Congratulations to the following Walton students who made the Honour Roll at Seaforth High School - Sharon Godkin, Shannon Craig, Shannon Davies, Julie and Clara Glauser, LeeAnn McDonald, Jason Baan, Mark Bachert, Stephen Bachert, David Lewington and Marcy Mccall. A few weeks ago I was talking to a rather excited Sharon Brown who said that her Dad had sold his truck and was thinking about buying a restaurant. Well he did just that. He and Sharon have taken over the Kountry Kettle this side of Blyth. After driving a truck for 30 years Allan Brown decided he needed a change. With this truck driving having taken him all over the world he had the chance to sample a lot of different restaurants, so he knows what he wants out of a restaurant - good food at a reasonable price. Sharon says that he has been working-on his "secret sauce" and now has it just the way he wants it. The 'Ranch House' will open July 4, but the grand opening will be in a month or so, depending on when they get the char-rock broiler in so that they can barbecue steaks, chicken and burgers. I checked out the menu and from the Texas Chili down to the 'Little Cowpoke Specials' I do believe that no one will every leave there hungry. Good luck on your new venture folks. Dr. and Mrs. C.A. Meyers, Luella Mitchell and Lillian Beer were dinner guests of Emerson and Phyllis Mitchell this past weekend. Dr. Myers used to be the doctor in Brussels and in 1960 they moved to Saskatoon, Sask. The couple have been visiting with their daughter, Mrs. Bob Richmond of Brussels. Also the Mitchells enjoyed bed and breakfast guests who came from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and from Minneapolis, Minnesota. A Talent Time .was held on Monday, June 26 where students and staff 'strutted their stuff. There were soloists, pianists, stcpdanccrs, baton twirler, tap dancer and a recitation by Mother Goose (Mrs. Howe-Lobb) and Mrs. Scott (disguised as an old woman). Their recitation was called, 'The Rabbit Poem', a poem Mrs. Scott learned when she was in Grade 2. Sporting cardboard lollipops the staff made up the air band that sang 'Lollipop, Lollipop'. The Mystery Rapper showed up too with a big red nose and all to do a homemade rap song about Walton School. Most kids guessed the Rapper to be Mrs. Vandendool but some were not sure. I asked Mrs. Crocker how she felt the year went. She said that it had been a very busy, but wonderful year and that she had a ball. I also asked that very hard working secretary Mrs. Johns what she thought of the past year and she said that they had had a shaky start but certainly had a much happier ending. She enjoyed the staff and children so much. So thus ends another year at Walton Public School. I have appreciated the teachers and kids co-operating with me and making sure that I had news for the paper. Youth Leadership Camp set Young people from Huron County will have a chance to interact, confront pressing rural and economic issues and have fun during a weekend leadership retreat. The Pride of Huron Youth Leadership Camp takes place Sept. 8-10 on the shores of Lake Huron at Camp Kintail, RR 3, Goderich. The Pride of Huron is a project of the Huron County Junior Farmers with funding from the Huron County Federation of Agriculture and other groups. The youth chairperson of the event is Susan McLachlan, of RR 3, Kippen. The 17-year-old student of Seaforth District High School has been active in curling, broomball and baseball and in 4-H. "I think this is going to be really good for young people in Huron from different areas to get to know each other," said McLachlan. The leadership camp will feature personal development workshops, rural and economic issues and recreational events. The fee for each participant is $35. To apply to be part of The Pride of Huron Leadership camp, write to P.O. July ushers are John Gillis, Ross Bennett and Sharon Godkin. Rev. Randy Banks welcomed everyone and then thanked Karen Hoegy and all the people who did such a terrific job of catering to the Country Supper Smorgasbord last week. He also said that hopefully there will be enough interest to go ahead with the Vacation Bible School July 14-20. The theme will be 'Fruits of the Spirit'. He then handed out papers and pen to the congregation to have them put down their favourite hymn because on July 23 there will be a 'Hymn Sing Sunday' during the regular service. His sermon was called, 'There is no such thing as free freedom." HCBE accepts tenders
