The two teams met in Brussels last week and despite a solid start for the home boys some defensive blooper's by them, and solid pitching by Belgrave's Rob McGee helped the visitors to a win. Brussels PeeWees lose 2, win 1 The Brussels Tigers passed the halfway point of their league schedule and hold a 9 win - 2 loss record in Huron County Fastball Action. "Father Knows Best" was the story of the Tigers - Bulldogs game Wednesday night. Tied at one, Shawn Conley came out of the bullpen to make his Bulldog debut and was immediately greeted by a leadoff triple by his father. Doug Shaw followed with an RBI bunt single and the Tigers went on to a rain shortened 2-1 victory. The dogs opened the scoring in the first as Greg Mulvey tripled, then came home on John Miners' sacrifice fly. The Tigers quickly replied in their first at bat with Steve Fritz leading off with a home run. Doug Conley pitched a four hit, five strikeout effort for the win Blyth PeeWee soccer team got their fifth win of the season against Wingham Wednesday with the home game played in Belgrave. Kelly Boven opened the scoring with a hard shot at 20 yards. Mike Courtney drew the assist. Number two came from a corner kick by Jeff Cowan to Mike Ansley, who headed it between the pipes. Courtney again set up Boven for his second of the game to make it 3-0, then Johnathan Kochis ended the scoring for the first half with the assist going to Cowan. In the second half Blyth played stronger than ever coming up with eight goals. Dan Egli, Boven and with Brett Clarkson batting two for two. The Tigers opened the second half of their schedule with an 8-1 win over Blyth Decor. Trailing 1-0, a missed pickoff attempt allowed Murray Pipe to score from second to tie. An inning later Brett Clarkson's two run homerun gave the Tigers the lead. They then sealed the win with five runs in their last at bat. Todd Uhrig and Clarkson each enjoyed a three for three game with Brett adding four RBI's. Conley pitched a four hitter for the win with Uhrig throwing an inning of relief while Warren Moore gave up six hits over five innings before giving way to Bruce Bromley. The tigers travel to Monkton Friday night then return home the following Friday to meet Coops Sports. Cowan nicely set April Van Amersfoort up for her first of the game. On June 27, a strong Belgrave team came to town. Brussels took the early lead, when Joel Kellington and Jason Armstrong crossed the plate. Belgrave took a lead they would not give up in the second, with Tom Pfeiffer, Ric Buchannan and Brian Sanders scoring runs. They added to that total in the third inning, with Ryan Fear, Kevin Hopf, Rob McGee and Pfeiffer coming home. The Belgrave defense held on for a 7-2 victory. On Thursday, the boys travelled Winthrop. Brussels took the lead in the second, scoring 10 runs. Patrick Gilkes, Chris Mason, Nathan Garland, Terry Nichol, Mike Cooper two, Joel Kellington, The Brussels Pre-Mites were faced with a hard-hitting team when they travelled to Belgrave on June 29. The visitors jumped to an early lead as they brought five runners home. Crossing the plate in the first were Adam Corbett, Alyssa Ruttan, Nicki Mason, Tyler Jutzi and Cory Chapman. Belgrave was not to be held down as they tallied three runs in the bottom of the opener. Holding the challengers in the second, the hometown squad blast- ed the ball and managed eight runs in the second. Down 11 to 5, Brussels fought back, tying the game when runs were scored by Corbett, Ruttan, Mason, Jutzi, Chapman and Jamie Crosby. The defense could not hold the strong attack, allowing Belgrave to score eight more to end the game at 19-11. The June 27 game in Walton, which was rained out, was resched- uled for Aug. 1 at 7 p.m. Armstrong two, and Justin Ruttan scored the runs: After Winthrop scored three in the third and one in the fourth, Brussels added to their lead, scoring three in the fifth. Gilkes, Mason and Joshua Gropp counted on what were to prove important runs. Winthrop came back and scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth. The defense held, however, and Brussels returned home with a 13-10 victory. On Monday evening, a power- hitting crew from Listowel came to challenge the boys.-firrid challenge they did, scoring nine runs in the first inning. Brussels responded with two in the second, when Nichol and Kellington crossed the plate.
