50th annual reunion

The 50th annual Nethery-
Leishman reunion was held on
Sunday, June 25 at HuIlett Central
School, Londesboro, with 75
signing the register.
Guests were present from
California, Forest, Orillia, Parry
Sound, Sarnia, Toronto, Blenheim,
Kitchener, Hanover, Kincardine,
London, Mitchell, Goderich,
Wingham, Bluevale, Clinton,
Blyth, Londesboro, Belgrave and
surrounding district.
Ella Ives of Blyth was in charge
of the sports, which were enjoyed
by all.
Following the supper hour, the
president, John Nethcry of Forest,
conducted the meeting. He
announced the deaths during the
past year: Alvin Gallagher and
Mark Mathers. A few moment's
silence followed in remembrance.
The program continued with
Robin McCallum of Toronto,
playing the bagpipes and the Snell
family singing several songs. Glen
McGill told somelrish jokes which
were enjoyed by all.
The minutes of the first Nethery-
Leishman reunion in 1945 were
read by Isabel Garniss of
Wingham.
Special prizes were awarded by
Congratulations to Shawn
Galbraith, son of Scott and Linda
Galbraith for receiving his first
green stripe in Tae Kwon Do at
Kitchener last month.
Mabel's Moms met at the home
of Mabel Wheeler on Wednesday,
June 21.
It being a nice warm sunny day
they had their meeting on the deck
and also enjoyed a pot luck lunch.
Attending were Andrea Stevenson,
Mathew and Tyler; Lila Procter and
Ben; Kim McArter, Kristen and
Lacey; Linda Hess and Andrew;
Donna Raynard, Trevor and Heidi;
Candice Chaffe and Brandon;
Sherri Sippel, Christie, Scott and
Neil; Melanie Pletch, Meagan and
Ben; Sandra Dorsch and Melinda;
Michelle Young and Sara; Kim
Higgins and Laura and Rev. Mary
Jane Hobden.
Last week Betty Irwin went to
Port Carling and visited with
daughters, Colleen Vanderjagt and
Lorna Glover and grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Ron Nicholson of
Burr and Mr. and Mrs. Glyn Wide,
Trevor and friend Phil of Hamilton,

the visitors over the next two
innings, scoring six to Brussels
two. Runners were Franken and
Oldfield.
Brussels tried to close the gap in
the sixth when Harrison, Robbie
McKercher and Franken all made it
home, while Kerr shut down oppo-
sition in the bottom half of the
inning.
However, it was too little, too
late and the visitors were defeated
by two.
The following night Brussels
hosted Seaforth losing once again
John Nethcry to: youngest person
present, Katelyn McCallum of
Hanover; oldest person present,
Violet Cooper of Clinton; person
coming the farthest, Helen Kelly of
California; the couple who is
married 50 years this year, Mr. and
Mrs. Glen McGill of Orillia.
A gift of appreciation was given
to the secretary-treasurer Mary
Isabel Nethery for her continuing
service for the past 40 years.
Celebrating a birthday that day was
Violet Cooper. The youngest
person, who was at the first
Nethery-Leishman reunion in 1945
is Ella Ives.
Other prizes went to: guess the
answer contests, Kim Nethery and
Donna Johnston; guessing old
photo contest, Isabel Garniss;
number of candies in a jar, Barbara
Bosman; lucky plates, Bill Nethery
and Barbara Bosman.
A treat of watermelon was given
to everyone by John Nethery of
Forest and the reunion closed by
singing Auld Lang Syne.
The 1996 Nethery-Leishman
reunion will be held on June 23 at
Londesboro. President for next year
is John Nethery of Forest and
secretary-treasurer is Mary Isabel
Nethery of Belgrave.
Mr. and Mrs. John Sumner from
Las Crucs, New Mexico visited
recently with Mr. and Mrs. Garner
Nicholson.
Happy Birthday to Norma
Rintoul of Whitechurch whose
birthday was June 21. Family
members celebrating this special
occasion were Thelma Cardiff of
Brussels; Anne, Dave and Jeff
Oberholtzen of Waterloo; Donna
and Harry, Michael and Michele
Gutoskee and friend, Darren of
Kitchener; Doris, Leonard, Mark,
Tracey and Tim Robinson,
Belgrave; Neil, Helen and Stuart
Rintoul, RR 2, Lucknow; and
Gordon, Sharon, and Heather
Campbell of Belgrave.
They dined out for a lovely
smorgasbord supper at the Country
Inn in Brussels and then later went
back to Gordon, Sharon and
Heather's home for cake.
John, Linda, Jeremy and Justin
Campbell visited on the weekend at
Grand Bend with Bob and Heather
Maass of London and Nelson,
Susan and Laura Desjardin of
Grand Bend.

Oldfield pitched the full four
innings, accumulating 11 walks and
nine strikeouts.
Seaforth got off to a strong start
with three runs, while Brussels
managed just one when Oldfield
crossed the plate.
Brussels narrowed the lead to one
with a run scored by Philip Leger
in the second, but a six run third for
Seaforth gave them a big edge.
Oldfield's run in the third cut the
lead, then two runs scored by Chris
Coulter and Leger brought them to
within four to end the game.
Club meets
The last meeting for the summer
of the Belgrave Community Club
was held on June 2 at the Commun-
ity Centre with president Jack
Taylor in charge.
The meeting opened with the
singing of 0 Canada accompanied
by Freda Johnston at the piano.
The committee in charge of
purchasing shrubs for the front of
the Community Centre reported
that they had been planted and that
the Belgrave Co-op had donated
half the cost. Some geraniums were
to be planted as well.
Those having wedding anniver-
saries in June were recognized.
They are Lois and Stuart Chamney,
Jane and Bob Grasby, Ada and
Ross Taylor. Ross was also
celebrating his birthday.
Information from Robin Hood
Tours was given regarding trips to
Seniors Jubilee Concerts.
A nominating committee of Lois
Chamney, Lloyd Appleby and
Garner Nicholson was appointed to
have a slate of officers ready for
the annual meeting to be held Sept.
8.
Correspondence was read from
USCO outlining activities and
events that they are currently
involved in.
The meeting adjourned with a
motion made by Gamer Nicholson.
B. Irwin visits Pt. Carling
Oldfield strikes out 9
Last weekend 10 Brownies along
with some mothers went camping
for the weekend at Keewaydin
north of Kintail.
Enjoying the warm weather as
they camped in tents were Lindsay
Malhiot, Amanda Dorsch, Kristen
Palmer, Emily Elston, Felichia
Price, Ellen Procter, Janisa
Cloakey, Nicole Meier, Camara
Yuill, Nicole Procter, Lori Malhiot,
Sandra Dorsch and Alice Yuill.
Helping out were Lorene Walker,
and Karen Marks. The girls were
working on their Space badge
which they all received.
