The player from Guys and Dolls of Goderich swings high
on this pitch from the Party Pack of Brussels during the
the weekend co-ed tournament to raise funds for the new
ball diamond and soccer field in Brussels. The Party Pack
went on to win this game 19-13, while Rooster and Hens
from Blyth claimed the A title. Organizer John Harrison
said approximately $3,000 was raised, enough to
purchase the stone dust for the infield, which means that
next spring, the diamond will be ready for day games.
Harrison was pleased with the support and said the Park
Recreation Development Committee is planning another
tournament for next year.

Blyth Mosquitoes travelled to
Wingham for a very good offensive
game, Jeremy VanAmersfoort put
Blyth up by one early in the game.
Emily Slotegraaf scored Blyth's
second goal assisted by Darwin,
Buffinga. Wingham then made the
game 2-1 which kept Blyth on their
toes.
Buffinga and Pauline Blok put
Dave Ansley in the clear to finish
the scoring of the first half. After
half time Wingham scored to make
the game close at 3-2.
Then it was Blyth all the way
with five goals. Buffinga scored
from Ansley and Blok. Slotegraaf
scored her second after Van-
Amersfoort fed it up the right wing
to Aaron Baker who crossed it over
to her. Buffinga scored his second
of the game with Slotegraaf and
Baker setting him up in the clear.
Sloteg-aafs speed got her the hat
trick as Jason Stryker fed it up on
the right wing. Clarence Bosma,
the keeper, made a good goal kick
to Ansley in the left half back
position who in turn made a good
pass up left wing to send Tom Egli
in for the final goal of the game.
This gave Blyth an 8-2 win.
Blyth Mosquitoes have yet to lose a
game. All players showed good
skills and worked hard for this well
deserved win. Their next game is
It was a hit parade when Brussels
Squirts met up with Walton in Wal-
ton on June 19.
Despite a close battle, the home
team edged Brussels by a final tally
of 15-13.
Pitching for Walton was Brad
Lubbers while Matt McCall pitched
two innings and Robbie Kerr
pitched four for Brussels.
The first inning ended in a 3-3 tie
with Stephen Todd, Brian Oldfield
and McCall crossing the plate for
June 29 in Clinton at 7 p.m.
Blyth Mosquito soccer sqtlid
took part in the Legion tournament
held in Goderich on June 24.
Eleven teams participated to make
it a challenging tournament.
Blyth's first game at 11:15 was
against Lucknow. Justin Black and
Aaron Baker set up Emily Slote-
graaf for a 1-0 lead. Lucknow tied
the game a short time later.
Tom Egli made a beautiful
throw-in to Slotegraaf who set up
Darwin Buffinga to score. This
ended the first half.
With a few words of encourage-
ment and a freezie at half time,
Blyth came out and played a
fantastic second half and was
rewarded with another goal. Baker
and Buffinga maneuvered the ball
to Egli who outsmarted the keeper.
This gave Blyth a 3-1 win.
This put Blyth in the A division
where they met up with the
Wingham team at 2:30. Blyth
under heat stress, outplayed,
outshot and outmaneuvered the
opposition but were denied a win.
They lost 2-1 with Blyth's goal
coming from Baker, assisted by
Buffinga and VanAmersfoort.
The team played two good solid
games despite the heat and
humidity but got to go home early.

Brussels. While McCall then held
the home team down in the second,
Brussels launched a two-run attack.
Jimmy Franken and Andrew Gar-
land came home.

onslaught by the home team, while
the visitors managed only three.

Tigers lose
The Brussels Tigers failed to
defend their Seaforth Fastball
Tournament Championship losing
8-3 to the Camlachie Black Sox in
the B final.
The Sox broke a 3-3 tie scoring
five runs in the bottom of the fourth
inning before the game was called
due to rain.
The Tigers opened the tourna-
ment losing 4-0 to the Mitchell
Mets. Mitchell opened the scoring
with a run in the second, then
scored three in their last at bat.
Losing pitcher Doug Conley was
given no support offensively as the
Tigers were held to three base
runners.
Game two saw Doug Shaw, Ken
Higgins and todd Uhrig all clear the
centrefield fence as the Tigers
broke a scoreless tie with six runs
in the fifth enroute to a 6-1 win
over Blyth Decor.
Uhrig went the distance holding
Blyth hitless to the sixth inning
while Decor's Don Bogie pitched a
two hitter thru five innings.
In semi-final action the Tigers
scored a 9-0 win over the Fullarton
A's. Brett Clarkson and Gary Pipe
each batted three for four while
Uhrig pitched a five-hit seven
strikeout game.
In league action Wednesday
night in Lieury, the Jets/Tigers
game was suspended in the top of
the fourth inning. The Jets were
leading 4-3 when Higgins
attempted to tag and score from
third base. A collision at home
plate caused both benches to empty
and resulted in the umpires calling
the game. It is not known when or
whether the game will be replayed
until after a league meeting next
week.
For the Tigers, Steve Fritz was
two for two, including a third
inning homerun over the right field
fence.
Tonight the Tigers are at home to
the Bulldogs at 8 p.m. while Friday
the Blyth Decor are in town.
PeeWees win
On June 21, the Blyth PeeWee
soccer team hosted the Clinton
team in Belgrave. Blyth PeeWees
have enjoyed a very successful
season so far this year and again
came up with lots of offense in
their last game.
Blyth scored first with Jeff
Cowan putting a very strong throw-
in in front of the net which
deflected off a Clinton player and
went into the net. Their 1-0 lead
lasted just 60 seconds Clinton came
back to tie the game.
Blyth regained the lead when
Cowan and Jonathan Kochis set up
Mike Ansley. With great team
work, Kochis scored with assists
going to Mike Courtney, John Eric
Pardys, Jeremy VanAmersfoort and
Jamie Black.
Clinton came back with another
goal to make it 3-2 at half time.
With a few instructions during the
half time break, Blyth came out
stronger than ever, being rewarded
with five goals. Courtney scored
the fourth with great footwork from
Ansley and Pardys.
Dan Elgi showed good speed and
class after Cowan put him in the
open to put Blyth up by three.
Courtney tapped a short one in
after VanAmersfoort dropped a
long shot in front of the net. Blyth
was awarded a penalty shot which
April VanAmersfoort took and
scored with a low shot to the right
side to beat the Clinton keeper.
Pardys finished the scoring as he
handedly beat the keeper with
assists going to April VanAmers-
foort and Courtney.
Blyth showed good soccer skills
and are very entertaining to watch.
Their next game is Wednesday,
June 28 in Belgrave at 7 p.m. They
will host Wingham.
Ont Monday evening, the
Brussels PeeWee boys were paid a
visit by a very strong Wingham
team. With three games in the next
four nights, the boys settled in for
what they knew would be a long
week.
Unfortunately, the week did not
get off to a good start. After the
visitors scored a run in the first
inning, Chris Mason stole home in
the second to tie it up. Wingham
then crossed three runs over the
plate in the second. Brussels
countered with another run, when
The Teeswater squad came out
swinging when the Belgrave Ban-
tam boys ball team came to town
on June 20, but could not hold off
the strong attack.
The Belgrave team tallied the
first runs, pushing Adam Garniss
and Dean Walker across the plate.
Teeswater struck back quickly,
shocking the visitors with six runs
in the bottom of the opening
inning.
With strong pitching, Teeswater
Joshua Gropp scored off a hit by
Tyler Bragg.
It all fell apart in the third inning,
however, when Wingham scored
seven in their half of the inning.
Brussels was able to add two more
runs before the end of the game,
when Terry Nichol was walked
home and Bragg swiftly turned a
fielding error on a single into a
home run.
The visitors returned home with a
15-4 victory.
Nichol, Mike Cooper and Gropp

was held scoreless for the remain-
der of the game as Belgrave mount-
ed their comeback.
Jamie McCallum scored in the
third, with Luke Lockridge and
Mike Barfoot bringing the total to
four by the end of the fourth.
A blowout fifth capped the win
for Belgrave as five runs crossed
home.
Jeremy Campbell, Mike Sanders,
McCallum, Garniss and Lockridge
scored.
