When a mosquito bites, saliva is
injected into the victim to help
extract the blood. This is what
causes the itching sensation.
Children tend to react more than
adults.
Strawberry
Social gets
• rave reviews
Rave reviews were received from
the more than 125 people who
enjoyed tasty treats of the summer
at the Blyth Business Association's
Strawberry Social, June 21.
"The event went very well," says
BBA member Donna Taylor. "The
organization netted between $700
and $800 which will go towards
downtown beautification."
The strawberry social is planned
for next year with hopes of offering
local fruit to tempt the taste buds.
Firefighters
douse car fire
The Blyth Fire Department was
called to Morris Twp. Conc. 5, at
1:45 p.m. on Tuesday June 20, to
douse a car fire.
Jack Mercier was driving a car
owned by Theresa Van Beek of
Brussels when it sputtered and
began to smoke, says firefighter
Jim Howson.
The vehicle was destroyed.
Town and Country Homemakers'
Supportive Housing Project is plan-
ning a summer fun picnic to be
held at Queen's Villa, Blyth from
noon until 2 p.m. on July 6.
According to Kathy Bromley, the
custodian of Queen's Villa, the rea-
son for the picnic is specifically to
break the ice among the residents
and open the lines of communica-
tion. "There have been many new
faces moving into the apartments
recently, and this is a way of help-
ing them find out more about what
Town and Country Homemakers
offer as well as meeting their
neighbours."
Bromley is also on the committee
for Housing Partner of Huron
which gives the tenants more say in
how their building is managed.
"They keep Goderich informed
instead of Goderich keeping them
informed."
The residents will have a chance
at the picnic to meet with the Sup-
portive Housing Co-ordinator
"Miss Laughter" Tammy Antaya.
There will a one-hour meeting to
discuss supportive housing, offer
input and suggestions and list con-
cerns.
There will also be surprise enter-
tainment.
