Blyth PS news Students attend Literacy Festival KINDERGARTEN On Friday morning both kindergarten classes with their teachers and some parents took part in the Literacy Festival in Clinton. When they returned they ate a picnic lunch at the Blyth Lions Park where many more parents were able to join them. In the afternoon everyone went on the bus to Burgsma's Zoo where they saw zebras, wallabies, pea- cocks, ostriches, flamingos, llamas, many kinds of ducks and geese, a camel and many more animals. The day was enjoyed by all. LOCAL WEATHER READER VISITS GRADE 5/6 AT BLYTH P.S. Mr. Boyd Taylor, a local weather reader took time out of his busy schedule to explain how and what he monitors as a local weather reader for Environment Canada. He brought in his rain gadge, the minimum and maximum thermometer, a snow stick, and a weather vane. He takes readings two times per day as do 1600 other readers in Canada. He explained to us some things about the full moon and how large fronts move and meet. We appreciate what these volunteers do for us in order to understand and monitor our weather. OUR TRIP TO CASA LOMA, MEDIEVAL TIMES AND ONTARIO PLACE By Jenny Ritchie, Grade 5 The Grade 5s from Blyth PS visited Casa Loma which was built in 1911. Sir Henry owned Casa Loma for less than nine years. Then it was turned into a hotel. Later it was turned into a tourist attraction. We enjoyed the gardens, the large rooms and beautiful decor but we students especially liked the tunnels to the stables and the towers. The students became lords and ladies at Medieval Times at Exhibition Place in Toronto. The Grade 5s liked eating with their fingers for the feast. We watched knights, horses, and serfs try unbelievable stunts for a tournament challenge. The fights were very realistic and exciting. the music and light show was fascinating. We tried our best to cheer our knight to victory. The Grade 5s also went to Ontario Place. They had a blast! Most people said that the Wild Wilderness ride was very exciting. Students also enjoyed the Mega Maze, Lego Land and the Nintendo Pod. The students were very tired after their trip especially since the journey ended up being later than planned because of bus problems and one medical concern. The students will never forget this exciting worthwhile learning experience. NATURE TOUR By Mary Thompson and Rebecca Schultz Grade 1/2 and 2/3 went to East Wawanosh Conservation Area. We walked through the forest and down to the river.
