Huronlea hosts tea for Moms
A well-known Brussels couple
was honoured by friends and fami-
ly this past weekend on the occa-
sion of their golden anniversary.
Marguerite and Cal Krauter were
married on June 16, 1945 at the
United Church in Binbrook, Ont.
The Hamilton born bride was the
daughter of the former Selela Gib-
bons and Ebenezer Lester. Her
groom, John Calvin, was the son of
the former Marion Lamont and
John Krauter of Ethel.
Uniting the couple in marriage
was Rev. R.H. Somerville. Bridal
attendants were Mrs. Kathleen
Howell, Mrs. Helen Elliott of Brus-
sels, the late Mrs. Norma Ferguson,
the late Wesley Lester, the late
James Toman and Mr. Clarke
Cardiff.
Following a honeymoon trip the
Krauters resided in Hamilton
before moving to Brussels, where
Mr. Krauter operated a plumbing
and heating business for many
years. He retired in 1983.
Cal was a political force in the
community for many years, serving
Melville WMS met at the home
of Thelma Cardiff for their June
meeting on June 12.
Leona Armstrong was in charge
of devotions and opened the
meeting with a poem "Think on
These Things". Three verses of the
hymn All Things Bright and
Beautiful were sung.
Isobel Gibson had a scripture
reading from Romans. Leona had
the meditation - "Get a Life, How
do we do it?" This was followed by
a prayer from Ruby Steiss.
Leona told about an African tree
of life and its many uses. It is
called baobob tree. She had
pictures of it.
The hymn God Who Makes the
Earth, the Air, the Sky, the Sea -
Cares for Me, was read in unison.
President, Helen Elliott led the
business portion. After the roll call,
which was answered by a verse
containing the word "bird", the
secretary's and treasurer's reports
on council from 1963 to 1968 and
from 1976 to 1985 as reeve. He
was also the warden of Huron
County in 1968.
Marg has also been a prominent
community figure. She dedicated
years of service to Callander Nurs-
ing Home, not just as an RN, but in
its early history as a "jack-of-all-
trades", who did cooking and laun-
dry as well. For a time she was
director of nursing, then adminis-
trator.
In 1970 she was one of two
women who taught an RNA course
offered through Callander.
he Krauters are members of
Melville Presbyterian Church,
while Marg gives her time to its
Women's Missionary Society.
In addition to their busy profes-
sional lives, the Krauter raised two
children, John David Lester and
Kathleen Ann (Wilson).

received and dedicated.

secretary of a leprosy colony. She
expressed deep appreciation and
thanks for cards and used stamps
that had been sent.
Camp Kintail weekend is being
planned for young children.
The hymn Summer Suns are
Glowing was sung and the meeting
closed with prayer.
A delicious lunch was served by
Isobel Gibson and the hostess. A
social time followed.
