Grey Central Echo Students take a on walk on the wild side June is finally here! Grey Central has been a buzz of activity with the Promenade Theatre production directed by Gail Fricker, Field Day, year book activities, a Caribbean fair and bus trips. Top athletes from our field day are - Rikus Haller and Becky Rapson for the Bantams, Philipp Affolter and Stacey Bowles for the Atoms, Paula Bowles and Tyler Campbell for the Tykes and Sara Damen and Mike Lefor for the Mites. Many people from Grey competed in the North Huron Track and Field Day at Howick on June 1. The Grade 7 pupils were making last minute plans for their trip to Quebec during the first week of June. A Parent Council Meeting is planned for Monday, June 19 at 7:30. GAIL FRICKER By Leisa McCall This week at Grey we were very fortunate to have a talented lady who specializes in drama visit our school. This drama project centered on the environment and our outdoor classroom provided the setting for the play created by the pupils. I stopped by Mr. Park's Grade 3/4 class to interview Gail Fricker. She is an interesting lady who had a lot to say about this exciting event. Ms Fricker, who was born and went to school in London, England now lives in Toronto. She travels from school to school doing different drama projects. She has a degree in theatre drama and got to train with an actress. She was inspired to do this because when she was a little girl she wanted to be an actress. Ms Fricker likes her job because she finds the projects very exciting and creative. Other than teaching drama Ms Fricker is a professional story- teller. At our school she is very fascin- ated with our school setting and the kids. She says we have "beautiful facilities" and we think so too! OUR TRIP TO ONTARIO SCIENCE CENTRE By Brian Oldfield and Philipp Affolter On May 30 Mrs. Irwin and Mrs. Whitmore/Colquhoun's Grade 5/6 classes went to visit the Science Centre in Toronto. We left our school at 7:30 a.m. and got there at 10 a.m. We saw a lot of neat things there like a space suit, a model of outer space, a bike that when you peddle one handle bar turns hot and the other handle turns cold, a static electricity show and other many things. Before we left, the kids had a chance to get some souvenirs. CARIBBEAN FAIR By Crystal Gulutzen On May 31, Ms McKee's Grade 7/8 class held a Caribbean Fair. Every student put a lot of time into their projects, they also had a lot of fun doing it. There were a lot of different booths. They had Limbo Dances, food sampling, movies about their islands, and spices. Each of the people, at the booths told and explained their island. The Caribbean unit was an assignment where we worked with a partner. We chose an island and researched it. Then we had to present our island to an audience to see if we could attract them to our island if they were tourists. It was a big success, and a day of fun, I hope we can have it again next year! Discovering drama Grey Central teacher Michael Park helps a group of students identify the clues that lead them on their routes of environmental discovery during a drama presentation at the school on Friday afternoon.
