Walton Public School news
Pupils enter Fairytale Land
Congratulations to the following
Grade 3 and 4 students who
competed in the regional track and
field meet held at the Seaforth High
School last week, Jillian Rickert,
Stack Giller, Trisha McClure,
Carrie Leonhardt, Sarah
McDonald, Kendra Bennewks,
Devin and Darcy McCutcheon,
Robbie McClure, Jay Cochrane,
Ben Bachert, Tyler Elligsen,
Brandon Blake and Kevin Wilbee.
This was the first time that the
Walton School was able to
participate in such an event due to
the fact that the school has never
had Grade 4s in it until this year.
Well due to the rain, the ball
tournament in Walton was
cancelled but it didn't dampen the
spirits of the -people that came out
for the dance at the hall Friday
night. The Tiffin's played all the
old numbers and at one point they
called up Phyllis Mitchell to play
the fiddle with them. She joined
right in as if she had always played
with them.
The rain didn't keep the 'treasure
seekers' away on Saturday either as
car loads of people hit Walton's
village garage sales. Everything
from homemade butter tarts to
beautiful antique furniture could be
had for a price that day.
Neil McGavin had a little
surprise on his birthday June 1. His
At the beginning of the week
Grade 2 and 3 students entered into
their classrooms through a large
castle gate. Their rooms had turned
into 'Fairytale land.'
And even more peculiar were the
two old women dressed up in rather
strange attire, carrying around a
basket each of clues to some fairy
tales. It seems that the pair had
trouble remembering fairy tales
such as Jack and the Beanstalk,
Rumpelstiltskin, etc., so they would
pull out a clue, such as an old shoe
or and apple with a bite out of it.
The kids had to help these poor
wife suggested to him that they go
down to the Walton Inn for
breakfast. Little did he know that
Marie had some of his friends there
waiting to share the breakfast with
him. So he did get a nice surprise
when he walked through the door.
George and Marie Blake of RR 2,
Brussels celebrated their 50th
anniversary on Sunday, June 4 at
St. Ambrose Church, Brussels.
After mass they had a coffee hour
and the family served the
congregation.
They had family pictures taken
with George and Marie's brothers
and sisters, etc. There were 78
family members all together.
Following this they went to
George and Marie's farm for the
addled souls remember the tales.
The Grade is are getting ready
for the Literacy Festival in Clinton
next week. They have been reading
books written by Sharee Fitch such
as Toes in My Nose and Monkeys in
My Kitchen. She will be one of the
authors at the Festival.
Kindergartens were able to take
home their plants that they have
had great success in growing.
The whole school enjoyed their
playday held last Thursday. They
had sack races, bean bag throws,
wheelbarrow races and a shaving
cream race.

greeters at Duff s United Church,
June 4. Kevin Wilbee was chosen
to light the Christ Candle.
Graeme Craig and Patty Banks
sang a duet called Sweetgrass and
Candle. Marion Godkin accom-
panied them on the piano.
Rev. Randy Banks called the
children forward so that they could
watch and be a part of the baptism
of Allison Amanda Baan, infant
daughter of Steve Teresa. Sarah
McDonald participated in the
ceremony by pouring water into the
font. Before Rev. Banks handed the
baby back to her parents he placed
the newly baptized child into
Margaret Craig's arms and she took
her up and down the aisles so
everyone could get a close look at
the newest member baptized into
the church of God.
After the family went back to
their seat Rev. Banks told the kids
that he had one more thing to say to
them. He said that he wanted them
to have a reminder of their own
baptisms and with that hg reached
into the font and sprinkled water on
each of the children.
Rev. Banks announced that next
Sunday is Anniversary Sunday and
the service will start at 11 a.m.
Guest speaker, Rev. Al Johnston,
will take the service and Don Sills
will be the guest soloist.
There will be a lunch served after
the service.
The UCW are to be at the church
on June 7 at 7:15 so that they can
go to Huronlea for a tour.
He reminded people that June 25
is the 'Country Supper Smorgas-
bord'.
Rev. Banks's sermon was called,
'God as Bewilderer'.

Arena on May 30. Showing off spring flowers are, from

Bodfield and Joan Jacobs.
In recent weeks, the students of
F.E. Madill have excelled in
scholastic endeavors.
Nineteen OAC students took part
in the Descartes Mathematics com-
petition, held at the University of
Waterloo, where the team, includ-
ing Brussels resident Angie Yoon,
combined to earn the highest score
of the 22 schools involved.
At your residence, be sure to keep
grass, hedges and shrubs well-
trimmed to reduce mosquito resting
areas. At the vacation property,
where natural landscaping may be
preferred, try to minimize over-
grown bushes and trees that are
immediately adjacent to the
cottage, deck and dock.
