PAGE 12. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MAY 31, 1995.
The highlight for the school this
week has been track and field -
Walton's first attempt at it. What
was unique about the day is the
event included Grades 2, 3 and 4.
A very excited Tina Bueckert
(Grade 4) came to school last week
with news that she has a new baby
brother. Apparently her mom and
dad were planning on flying to
Mexico but they got as far as the
London Airport and the baby
decided it was time to enter the
world.
The kindergarten class had a visit
from Corduroy the bear. He travels
around Huron County and he
wanted to check out the kids in
Walton. There are a lot of
children's books written about
Corduroy.
Continuing in their Snail Unit in
Grade 2, Nicholas Giller brought in
some land snails. Dann Eedy
showed the-class some water snails
that he had collected.
Did you know that water snails
have gills? I have become much,
wiser since going to the school to
gather news.
Although the Grade is didn't
participate in the track and field,
they did watch some of the events
and then had their own events
during gym.
Ball park
lights up
Well the Walton Ball park now
has two new lights up and a new
sign that was designed and painted
by Sharon Brown of Walton.
The little village will be busy this
coming weekend starting Friday
with an old time dance down at the
Hall and a baseball tournament will
be going on during the weekend as
well.
On behalf of the Walton
community I'd like to extend our
deepest sympathy to Gloria Love,
who's father Harvey Beuerman
died this past week.
Doug and Marjory Fraser visited
with Dorothy and Leonard Webster
of Oakwood, Ont., friends of
Doug's from his days on the
Ontario Cream Board. Doug and
Marjory's daughter Cheryl Mader
and new baby Lucas spent a week
with them.
Neil and Marie McGavin visited
with Ruth and Bruce Kelso of Sault
Ste. Marie where Marie attended a
surprise bridal shower for Heather
McGavin.
Howard and Audrey Hackwell's
daughter Pam came from Toronto
Wednesday, May 24, to help her
dad celebrate his birthday. He is
keeping his age a secret. Only
"The Shadow" knows.
Geoffrey Banks got to go to
conference with his dad, Randy.
Not only did he get off school for
two days he also went down a five-
storey waterslide, made lots of new
friends, went bowling and was kept
very busy.
Both guys arrived home
exhausted from the four-day event.
Marion and Lavern Godkin
travelled to Kingston May 27
where they attended their daughter
Nancy's convocation at Queen's
University. Nancy received honors
in Bachelor of Science in
Occupational Therapy.
Nancy has accepted a position at
a hospital in Orlando, Florida in the
Occupation Therapy department.
Congratulations!
Due to Rev. Randy Banks being
away for conference at Sault Ste.
Marie this Sunday, a very capable
Graeme Craig took the service.
Gloria Wilbee told the children
about Paul and Silas being in
prison and how they stayed happy
while being locked up and how
their jailer found God through them
Graeme presented to the
congregation a reading by Betsy
Schwarzentraub called Giving Her
All. It was based on Mark 12:41-
44 about the widow who put in all
she had into the collection box.
She showed that the gift that counts
is the gift that costs; that no gift of
love is too small to count, and that
giving to God means putting in the

things, but we can do small things
in great ways. - unknown
Graeme announced that next
week is Pentecost Sunday and Holy
Baptism. People are encouraged to
wear red and/or yellow to
symbolize the "Tongues of Fire".
June 11 is Anniversary Sunday
with guest speaker Rev. Al
Johnston.
The UCW meet June 7 at 7:15.
They will be going to Huronlea for
a tour and Mary Gibbings will give
a talk concerning a visitation
program. Members are reminded
that roll call will be to bring $3 to
help buy kitchen articles.
