PAGE 9. ports Tigers stage comeback for 5-4 win over Flyers Ken Higgins singled home Murray Pipe in the bottom of the seventh for a 5-4 come from behind win over the Francistown Flyers. Pipe led off the seventh with a walk, moved to second on Ron Strome's sacrifice bunt, then scored on the hit by Higgins. Trailing 4-0 the Tigers scored once in each of the first three innings, then tied the game in the sixth on an RBI single by Brett Clarkson. Gary Pipe reached base on all three at bats, scoring twice, while Higgins went th,ree for four including a home run. Doug Conley went the distance on the mound for the win. Upcoming league games include Friday, May 26, Blyth at Monkton; Sunday, May 28, Monkton at Tigers; Monday, May 29, Tigers at Bulldogs and Belgrave at Blyth and Tuesday, May 30, Blyth at Walton. With the ball season underway, the Brussels Squirts took on Gorrie May 15, taking home a huge vic- tory. The hometown Gorrie team struck early, pushing three players across the plate in the first. By the end of the third, Brussels had jumped to a 6-3 lead as pitcher Andy VanBeek shut down Gorrie. Brian Oldfield took over the pitching duties for the final three innings, keeping the opponents to The Brussels Bulldogs men's team has started its 1995 season in the Huron County Fastball League. The team has added some new faces along with the regulars. Members are Andrew McCutcheon, Dave Smith, Greg Wheeler, Brian McArter, Greg Mulvey, Bryan. Neill, Bruce Johnston, Jerry Bremner, Dean Rutledge, John Miners, Brad Beuermann, Dwain Nichols and Mike Watson. Although the Bulldogs were off to a slow start, things seem to be turning around. Their first game, against Walton, the Bulldogs couldn't get anything going offensively and the defense was weak as well. Walton took the win with a score of 4-0. The second game against Blyth Decorating wasn't much better for the Bulldogs. Six hits resulting in one run while Brussels racked up three more. The final tally was 9-4. Several Brussels players put in very good efforts, going two for two on the day. Tim Harrison earned two hits and scored twice. Oldfield and Robbie McKercher hit twice and scored once. Matt Knoll went two for three. Other runs in the game were scored by Philip Leger, Bryce Wedon, Chris Coulter, Stephen one wasn't enough as Decorating went on to win 6-1. In their third game of the season against the Belgrave Blue Devils, it looked as if the tides were turning for the Bulldogs. They started the first inning with runs by Brian McArter and John Miners, but the Blue Devils responded with four runs of their own. Dave Smith held the Blue Devils off the scoreboard for the next five innings while in the sixth the Bulldogs tied it up with Dean Rutledge and Bryan Neill scoring two more runs. The Blue Devils stole home in the bottom of the seventh to take the win 5-4. The next Bulldog games are Friday night against Zurich Rangers in Walton and Monday night against the Brussels Tigers at 9 p.m. Todd and Mike Walker. The following day, the team trav- elled to Belmore to meet with a tough squad. Though Brussels took the early lead, Belmore retaliated with three in the fourth. Brussels recovered, scoring two in the fifth and one more in the sixth to capture a 4-3 win. The team was able to take advan- tage of some clutch hitting and a Belmore error in the third. Andrew Garland started the sixth with a double, advanced to third after a Robbie Kerr sac fly then scored on the error. The final out of the game was executed by McKercher, tagging out the runner at third on a throw from centre fielder Harrison. Todd went two for two, including a triple which brought home Leger.
