With the ball season underway,
the Brussels Squirts took on Gorrie
May 15, taking home a huge vic-
tory.
The hometown Gorrie team
struck early, pushing three players
across the plate in the first. By the
end of the third, Brussels had
jumped to a 6-3 lead as pitcher
Andy VanBeek shut down Gorrie.
Brian Oldfield took over the
pitching duties for the final three

team has started its 1995 season in
the Huron County Fastball League.

faces along with the regulars.

McArter, Greg Mulvey, Bryan.

Bremner, Dean Rutledge, John
Miners, Brad Beuermann, Dwain

Although the Bulldogs were off
to a slow start, things seem to be
turning around. Their first game,
against Walton, the Bulldogs
couldn't get anything going
offensively and the defense was
weak as well. Walton took the win
with a score of 4-0.
The second game against Blyth
Decorating wasn't much better for
the Bulldogs. Six hits resulting in
one run while Brussels racked up
three more.
The final tally was 9-4.
Several Brussels players put in
very good efforts, going two for
two on the day. Tim Harrison
earned two hits and scored twice.

twice and scored once.
Matt Knoll went two for three.

went on to win 6-1.
In their third game of the season
against the Belgrave Blue Devils, it
looked as if the tides were turning
for the Bulldogs. They started the
first inning with runs by Brian
McArter and John Miners, but the
Blue Devils responded with four
runs of their own. Dave Smith held
the Blue Devils off the scoreboard
for the next five innings while in
the sixth the Bulldogs tied it up
with Dean Rutledge and Bryan
Neill scoring two more runs. The
Blue Devils stole home in the
bottom of the seventh to take the
win 5-4.
The next Bulldog games are

Rangers in Walton and Monday

9 p.m.
Todd and Mike Walker.
The following day, the team trav-
elled to Belmore to meet with a
tough squad.
Though Brussels took the early
lead, Belmore retaliated with three
in the fourth. Brussels recovered,
scoring two in the fifth and one
more in the sixth to capture a 4-3
win.
The team was able to take advan-
tage of some clutch hitting and a
Belmore error in the third.
Andrew Garland started the sixth
with a double, advanced to third
after a Robbie Kerr sac fly then
scored on the error.
The final out of the game was
executed by McKercher, tagging
out the runner at third on a throw
from centre fielder Harrison.

a triple which brought home Leger.
