An era came to an end earlier this month when the doors of Trinity Anglican Church, Belgrave closed and the 130-year-old congregation amalgamated with St. Paul's Anglican Church in Wingham. The new charge will be known as St. Paul's-Trinity and the charge is the culmination of two years of soul searching and discussion by parishioners of Trinity. Over the years, the congregation at Trinity Church had dwindled to a handful of devoted worshippers, many descended from the pioneer families of Morris and East Wawanosh Twp. About two years ago the members of the congregation sat down and discussed the reality that was before them. Membership was down, yet expenses remained constant. The time had come to make a decision. While, they could have continued on postponing a decision, they realized that a church which cannot do mission work, cannot fulfill its purpose. So, the decision to close On Wednesday, May 17 the Belgrave, Brussels 4-14 Beef Club met for the second time at the home of Paul Coultes. They went to his barn and weighed four cows. Mr. Coultes 2 accidents mar holiday weekend Wingham OPP report a quiet Victoria Day weekend in the area, with only two minor accidents, both of which occurred on Friday. A spokesperson from the detach- ment said the first accident hap- pened at 8:25 a.m., May 19 in Morris Twp. A 1985 Buick, driven by Michael Guy, 18, of RR5, Brus- sels, was travelling west on Conc. 3/4 when he struck a pickup, which had pulled in front of him from a private drive. • The driver of the truck, Glenn Coultes, 56 of RR5, Brussels was charged. A 16-year-old passenger in the Guy vehicle received minor injuries the spokesperson said. Damage to both vehicles was severe. At 2:50 that afternoon, Wingham officers investigated an accident at Belgrave on Hwy 4 near Jane St. The spokesperson said that a car driven by 52-year-old Terry Tweed of Toronto was hit from behind after slowing for traffic. The driver of the second car, Sydney Thomp- son, 59 of RR5, Wingham was charged with following too closely. There were no injuries and dam- age to both vehicles was moderate. Trinity was made. It is a sad thing when a church closes said Rev. Hodge and his role in the past two weeks has been ministering to the former parish- ioners of Trinity, making sure that no one "falls through the cracks" and that everyone has a new Church home. The congregation of St. Paul's has opened its arms to welcome the Trinity families, but some people may choose to go to Blyth, Brussels or even to an established Belgrave church. On Sunday, May 7 the Right Rev. Bishop Robert Townshend, bishop of Huron, conducted the deconsecration service at Trinity before the group proceeded to Wingham to dedicate the new charge of St. Paul's-Trinity. The altar and front articles used for the sacraments were removed from Trinity and transported to Wingham. Following the service a time of fellowship was held. The amalgamation of the two churches is like a marriage. It is time to look forward to the life of the church. also showed them how to eartag a cow. They watched a movie on how to put implants in ears. Afterwards they did some reading in their 4-11 books about record keeping, inventory and costs, identification, weighing, herd health, fly and parasite control, pre- conditioning, and vitamins and minerals, then had a snack of donuts and lemonade. Congratulations to leader Kim Higgins and her husband Bruce on the birth of their baby girl. 4-H members learn about polaroids Members of the Belgrave 4-H Club learned how to use a polaroid camera at their recent meeting. The roll call was to bring a picture of a landscape and tell all about it. Anne Garniss shared her pictures of her trip to England. All of her pictures were very interesting. The next meeting will be at the Campbell residence on Wednesday, May 24 after school. The meeting closed with the 4-H motto. Sparks and Brownies garden The Sparks and Brownies worked on their gardener's badge. Each one made up a booklet and had to know four different trees, six flowers and vegetables as well as three different kinds of garden tools and what they were used for. They will be tested next week. The sparks made a teddy bear pin and a pin for their hats. The Brownies made an owl and mushroom pin for their hat. M.
