donating $4,000 towards repairs at the BMG Pool.
Blyth Scouting winds down
Pastor talks of commitment
1st Blyth Group Committee met
at the Blyth Public School on April
10.
Special events to celebrate Lord
Baden-Powell's birthday in
February were very successful. It
was reported that over 200 people
attended the Scout-Guide banquet
Feb. 22. A delicious pot luck meal
was enjoyed.
The church service at the
Londesboro United Church was
well attended Feb. 26. Reverend
Paul Ross conducted the service,
which was particularly relevant to
the celebration of Scouting and
Guiding locally and around the
world.
Since March break, Beavers
worked on an Easter craft and
attended a joint meeting with the
Cubs to hear Bob Elliott speak
about his experiences as a stock car
racer.
They plan to spend one meeting
cleaning up refuse around the
village.
Cubs have spent two meetings
learning about the solar system
with the help of John Battye. One
of those meetings involved a joint
program of learning and activities
with the Clinton Cubs.
Scouts have constructed bluebird
boxes and enjoyed a movie night.
They are making plans for a
canoeing-camping excursion May
5-7 on the Gibson River, near
Midland.
In late April third year Beavers,
Cubs and Scouts will be participat-
ing jointly in the planting of Scout
trees on the property if Giselle and
Peter Kelly. This year, Scouts
Canada is celebrating the planting
of the 50 millionth tree since the
program was developed in the 70s.
With the end of the Scouting year
approaching Group Committee
annually sponsors some fundraising
campaigns to help cover the cost of
camping and supplies. A successful
maple syrup campaign was held in
March. The profit for each boy may
be used to help cover the cost of his
registration and food at the Huron
District Camp at Benmiller May
26-28.
May 13, Group Committee will
hold its annual Bake Sale and
Bottle Drive. The Bake Sale table
will be located in front of the Blyth
Festival Hall from 9 a.m. until
noon. Blyth Cubs and Scouts will
also canvass Blyth, Auburn and
Londesboro for returnable bottles.
The public is encouraged to help
support Scouting in Blyth. It is a
very worthwhile program.
Continued from page 20
early church some widows were
cared for while others were not.
James was familiar with the
widows among the Hebrews. His
intentions were good but he
overlooked the Grecian widows.
Pastor Came said, problems are
not always what they seem as the
past tinges attitudes. There is
reverse discrimination. "Take me as
I am but, I won't take you for what
you are."
The church is committed to a
body, which cannot exist if there is
a 'we and they' attitude, Pastor
Came said.
