WI installs officers at banquet
Rev. Paul Ross conducted the
service at Knox United Church.
Nancy Park was the organist.
The Invitation to Worship was
read alternately and the opening
chorus was sung. Hymn Sing Ye
Praises to the Father was sung.
Rev. Ross gave the prayers and
the choral response was sung,
followed by the children's story.
The children's chorus was sung.
The scriptures were read,
Congratulations to Dave and
Sheri Cartwright on the birth of a
son last week.
Mrs. Tom Jardin visited her
sister, Mrs. Annie Robertson in
Mississauga last week.
followed by hymn Faith of Our
Fathers.
Rev. Ross's sermon was "Risky
Business".
The offering was received by
Greg Park and Robert Worsell, and
for the Sunday School brought
forward by Joel Arthur and Graham
Worsell, then dedicated with song.
Hymn Will Your Anchor Hold
was sung. The singing of Amens
concluded the service.
Mr. and Mrs. Ell Lapp, Mr. and
Mrs. Keith Lapp and family visited
on Wednesday, April 19 with Nan
and Walter Denys of Kippen.
The occasion was an anniversary
dinner in honour of their parents Ell
and Kay Lapp.
The annual Auburn Women's
Institute banquet was held
Thursday, April 20 at the Kountry
Kettle, Blyth.
Grace was sung and everyone
partook of the soup and salad bar,
then meat and the beverage was
served. There were 20 ladies
attending.
Members then went to the home
of President Jean Plaetzer for the
meeting, which was opened in the
usual manner.
Marjorie McDougall was pianist.
Jean read a poem "Just Sing a Little
Song".
The minutes and correspondence
were read by Kay Lapp in the
absence of the secretary, Marion
Haggitt. The treasurer's report was
given by Rhonda Bruxer.
Betty Archambault spoke on the
courses taken at the OMAFRA
office at Clinton. Laura May
Chamney displayed the Women's
Institute quilt to be shown at the
Milton Quilt Show and a discussion
took place of what to do with this
beautiful quilt after it comes back
from Milton. The decision is to be
made at the May meeting.
Kay Lapp read the minutes of the
1993-94 meetings.
"Life is Like a Garden" was read
by Betty Archambault, who was
called on for the election of the
slate of officers for 1995-96 which
follows: past president, Jean
Plaetzer; president, Tena Empey;
first vice president, Maureen Bean;
secretary, Evelyn Flett; treasurer,
Rhonda Bruxer; pianist, Marjorie
McDougall; assistant pianist, Laura
May Chamney; district director,
Jean Plaetzer; branch directors,
Rhonda Bruxer and Laura May
Chamney; PRO officer, Maureen
Bean; auditors, Erma Cartwright
and Laura May Chamney; nominat-
ing committee, Rhonda Bruxer and
Laura May Chamney.
The standing committee
convenors are: curator, Ruth Jardin;
agriculture and Canadian indus-
tries, Kay Lapp; education and
cultural affairs, Betty Archambault;
citizenship and legislation, Rhonda
Bruxer; card convenor, Mildred
Lawlor; telephone committee,
Betsey Verwey and Kay Lapp.
Evelyn Flett read a poem "Take
Time for 10 Things". A mum plant
was presented to Betty
Archambault for her work in the
past years.
The District annual will be held
in the Auburn Community Hall on
May 29 with registration at 9:15.
The cost of the dinner will be $6. A
committee will plan for this event.
There is to be at least four articles
from the WI to sell that day.
Ethel Ball was thanked for typing
programs. Reports were given for
1994. Maureen Bean thanked Jean
Plaetzer for her two years as
president.
On Saturday, May 13 the Lions
Club is holding a bake, rummage
and penny sale at the hall. The
Institute decided to have a table at
that.
The Queen was sung.
Evelyn Flett had two contests.
The winners were Betty Archam-
bault and Ruth Jardin. She also
read a poem "When It Is Spring"
Delicious desserts and beverage
were served by Jean Plaetzer,
Maureen Bean and Kay Lapp and a
social time was enjoyed.

Golden couple
Archie and Doris Jacklin celebrated 50 years of marriage
on Sunday afternoon with family and friends at the Ethel
Hall. The couple reside on Conc. 3 in Grey Twp., where
they moved following their marriage.

Surrounded by family, friends
and neighbours, Archie and Doris
Jacklin celebrated 50 years of mar-
riage on Sunday afternoon.
An Open House was held in the
afternoon at the Ethel Hall. This
was followed by a family dinner.
Special guests April 23 were Edith
and Shirley Sheils from Rochester,
Mich., MI. and Mrs Tom Reid
Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Con-
ley, Brussels and Della Hood,
Atwood, who 50 years earlier had
served as one of the attendants for
the bridal couple.
A lovely surprise arrived in the
form of the best man, Gordon Hall,
who drove from Neepawa, Manito-
ba, to be with the couple at their
April 23 party.
It was April 18, 1945 when
Archie Jacklin took as his bride the
former Doris Hall. Rev. Stanley
Brenton married the couple at the
United Church Manse in Ethel.
Following a honeymoon trip to
Detroit, Mich., the Jacklins
returned to their home at Conc. 3,
Grey Twp, where they have contin-
ued to live and farm.
They raised four children, Barry,
Keith, Gloria (Bowman) and Ruth
(Farrish) and are now the proud
grandparents of seven grandchil-
dren and one great-grandson.
They are involved in community,
having served on the hall board for
a time. Mrs. Jacklin joined in Ethel
WI in 1958.
