Tyler Campbell, son of Laurie and Debbie Campbell has been selected to play on the Major Novice Saugeen City Platters AAA Summer Hockey Club. Tyler will participate in a full schedule of hockey from April through July. The team will compete in several tournaments in places such as Guelph, Sarnia, London, Toronto. Tyler's home games will be played out of the Durham arena. Congratulations Tyler! approximately 15 members planning to attend. The spring rally will be held in Dungannon hosted by their club on Tuesday, April 25. Euchre followed. Winners were: high lady, Kate Wilson; low lady, Marguerite Crawford; high man, Ruby Steiss; low man, Laura Fischer. Mary Lowe presides at meeting At the April meeting of St. John's Lodge No. 284 A.F. & A.M., Brussels, R.W. Bro. W.J. (Bill) Tumbull was presented with his 50 Year Pin. Bro. Turnbull was initiated into Masonry Nov. 24, 1944, installed as Worshipful Master in 1950, and as District Deputy Grand Master of North Huron District in 1972. He has always been very active in the Craft. Brussels People Morning Star Rebekah Lodge held its euchre party on April 17 in the IOOF hall with eight tables in play. Winners were: high lady, Thelma Keffer; high man, Ruth Johnston (playing as a man); low lady, Marguerite Crawford; low man, On Wednesday, April 19 Mary Lowe acted as president in the absence of Sarah Stephenson at the club's meeting held at Maple Villa. Mary read a poem concerning a "weed". Jeanne Ireland played piano for the singing of 0 Canada and the opening club song. On May 9 the Friendship Club is responsible for providing entertain- ment at Huronlea. The lunch will consist of squares and cookies for approximately 50 residents. In conjunction with the celebration of 100 years of operation at Huronview the Friendship Club was invited to brunch at 12:30 p.m. on June 1 at Huronlea. Cost is $5 each with Correction The report on Western Star Lodge on page two of last week's issue of The Citizen omitted the names of some of the counties rep- resented at the annual card party held at the Brussels Legion on April 1. The paragraph should have read the teams were comprised of peo- ple from the Districts of Perth, Saugeen and Huron. We apologize for the omission. Perth took home the trophy this year. Previous winners were Huron in 1993, Saugeen in 1992, Huron in 1991 and Perth in 1990. By Mary Gibbings Program Director and Volunteer Co-ordinator With all the regular programs, such as Fun and Fitness, Happy Wanders, Caring and Sharing, Adventures in Friendship, March was a very busy month at Huronlea. Rev. Cam McMillan led the church service in the Chapel at 2 p.m. on March 5. March 7 the Grade 4 class from Brussels School "Buddies 'R' Us" program visited the home. Bingo is held every Friday at 2 p.m. Many thanks to all the volunteers who come in to help with this program. Bingo is a very active program for all the residents. Every Saturday afternoon there is piano and organ music in the sitting room. Many thanks to Marion Eddie and Karen Cardiff, also Mary Brians and Alice Brothers for taking alternate weeks in providing the music for the afternoon. The piano and organ music is enjoyed by everyone. The Brussels Mennonite Fellow- ship Group led the church service on March 12. March 13 it was "Luck of the Irish" party time, with shamrocks and hats, tea biscuits with mint jelly, and green apple juice along with the good Irish music from Mr. Lorne McKenzie on the piano. Every Monday afternoon is Sing- A-Long Time. Thank you to the Cooks from Blyth for leading this program. Residents' council was held in the Fitness Room at 10:30 a.m. on March 14. In the afternoon the Habitat hosts May 13 brunch A fundraising brunch will be held on Saturday, May 13, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Brussels Mennonite Fellowship to raise funds to help Habitat for Humanity Huron County build its first home. Habitat for Humanity is a non- profit, non-government organiza- tion dedicated to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to live in at least a simple decent home. Habitat invites community groups such as churches, service clubs and organizations to participate with them. Admission to the brunch is by freewill donation. Persons inter- ested in helping with the brunch, or wishing to donate food may contact Yvonne Dettweiler at 887-6098. movie The Hillbillies was shown in the apartment sitting room. Next month we will have our new television with the big screen. March 15 Don Dunbar entertained everyone on the piano with tunes for everyone to enjoy. Beauty Boutique is held in the Activity Room on the second and fourth Wednesday morning of the month. Every third and fourth Thursday is Baking with Roda in the Activity Room. Every Thursday, Mass is held in the Chapel. Father Joe Nevitt lead the service. March 19 Rev. J. Vaudry St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Wingham led the service in the Chapel. Phyllis Mitchell entertains every first and third Tuesday morning in the sitting room. Phyllis always has someone else with her to join in all the favourite tunes. We are glad to have Phyllis back after her sickness. March 21 the residents enjoyed ice cream cones. This will get the residents in the mood for summer. On March 22 the Old Tunes entertained for the afternoon. Thank you to the Stefflers for the afternoon program. March 26 Capt. R. Scott, Salvation Army from Wingham led the service. Special welcome to our new Highland Apartments Tenants, Mrs. Roberta Simpson and Mr. Delmer Dilworth. To all our residents who are in the hospital a speedy recovery. The the families who have lost a loved one our sympathy goes out to each and every one. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Don't turn back if the road is hard It is brighter further along. Just take a step at a time, my friend, and try to sing a song. Keep up your chin it's well worthwhile, and whatever you do, Don't fall out when you're nearly there - see your journey through.
