Seventeen women met for the regular UCW meeting in the church parlour Thursday, April 13, Worship was in charge of Bea Chambers and Marjorie East. Roll call was a verse from Luke. The theme "Gethsemane" was introduced by Marjorie. The opening hymn was Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross which was followed with prayer. Scripture, Mark 14: 32-42, was read by Bea. When I Survey the Wondrous Cross was sung, accompanied by Susan Howson on piano. A poem entitled "The Cross in My Pocket" was read by Bea. The business was conducted by President Bonnie Shannon. Members were reminded that the 11 a.m. Sunday, April 23 service is "Camping Sunday". Canadian Tire money is to be placed on the collection plate in support of the church camps. Articles are required for camp so members are asked to bring a balloons, dye colouring for clothing or used Bibles to the May UCW meeting. Study leader, Adeline Campbell, carried through with the Easter theme asking all to think about where their families are headed in today's society. How fortunate we are to live in a country where there is freedom of speech and worship, she said, adding that there are those non-Christians who are slowly, and perhaps surely, trying to undermine this freedom. Centuries ago, people lived in perilous situations and each generation has its own trials to contend with but the world today is changing so quickly that unless there is a firm foundation in the home and in the church the young are torn in many different directions. There are many in oppressed countries who are learning Christ's teachings, so they can bring His message to their fellow country- men. These people endure great hardships in their search for a better world. Christ's crucifixion is a time to remember His sacrifice and try to live life according to His will. What better time than Easter weekend is there to renew efforts and think on these things? Members were told to enjoy the Easter Bunny with their children and grandchildren, but also remember who sins have been bought and paid for. "SLICE OF HURON" ATTENDED BY GRADE 3/4 AND 5 AT BLYTH P.S. Students from Blyth were agriculturally enriched by many volunteers from the agricultural community in Seaforth on April 12 at the Slice of Huron. Students concentrated on two areas of agriculture — dairy/grains, poultry/fruits, vegetables, red meats/alternate farming. In dairy, students watched and learned about the milk industry as a Jersey cow was milked. They played a game of milk trivia, they labelled the food dairy cattle eat, they saw the amount of food and water the average cow needs in a day, they viewed a video of a calf being born and they got to feed baby calves and learned about their needs.
