Crowd pleaser
The Brussels Public School band, under the direction of teacher Joan Perrie, entertained
the 250 people in attendance for the Western Star chicken dinner at the BMG Community
Centre on Wednesday, April 12.

When April arrived, it was for
the fifth annual card party of the
Western Star Lodge district. This
party, held the first Saturday in
April at Brussels Legion, was
started by Mel McCutcheon Past
District Deputy of Huron District
No. 8.
The teams were comprised of
people from the District of Perth.
This year there were 15 tables of
euchre with the winning district,
Perth, taking home the trophy.
Huron won in 1991 and 1993.
A quiet day of fellowship and
good times were enjoyed by all
participants.
On April 12 the annual chicken
supper sponsored by the Western
Star Lodge was held in great style
at Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centre. There were
240 dinners prepared by J.R.'s.
At the middle of the evening
everyone present was delighted to
hear the Brussels Public School
Band, under the direction of Joan
Perrie perform a few numbers.
During the course of events there
were draws made which had been
donated by local businesses.
Hydi Martin, from Port Albert,
was the United Nations speaker,
who went on a trip to Ottawa and
New York. This was sponsored by
Western Star Lodge and Morning
Star Rebekah Lodge.
Proceeds of the special events,
also go to a number of charities
such as the Santa Claus parade, the
school band and disability
equipment.

The regular meeting of Morning
Star Rebekah Lodge, Brussels took
place on Tuesday, April 11 with
N.G. Jane Hall presiding. D.D.
President paid her official spring
visit at this meeting.
Donations were made to Mission
Services of London and the
Brussels Fair Board. Members are
invited to Exeter on April 19 to
meet Diane Cole, Rebekah
Assembly warden.
The district meeting is in Exeter
on April 12.
The next regular meeting is April
25.

WI learns about sleep stages
Majestic WI President Ruth
Bauer opened the meeting which
was followed by a pot luck lunch.
Ruth Sauve introduced the guest
speaker, Marguerite Thomas, a
health nurse from Huron County.
Mrs. Thomas talked on sleep habits
and five different stages. She
quesiioned the ladies on how lack
of sleep affects them, then proceed-
ed to give them tips on how this
can be improved. Restless legs and
heartburn can interfere with a
person's sleep pattern.
Mrs. Thomas went through a
mental relaxation exercise that can
also help.
Upcoming activities were
mentioned before she finished.
Mrs. Sauve thanked her for her
informative speech.
Margaret McMahon installed the
new officers. The offices were
filled as follows: past president,
Ruth Bauer; president, Ruth Sauve;
first vice, Melody White; second
vice, Peggy Keifer; secretary-trea-
surer, Jean Fraser, district director,
Doris McCall; alternate director,
Leona Armstrong; public relations
officers, Kathy Bridge; program
co-ordinator, Leona Armstrong; re-
solutions, Marie McTaggart, Leona
Armstrong; and Tweedsmuir,
Kathy Bridge and Doris McCall.
Doris McCall made the presenta-
tion to the 4-H leaders: Darlene
Fischer, Melody White and Kathy
Bridge.
Ruby Steiss read "smiles''.
On May 10, members are meet-
ing at the library at 9:45 a.m. to go
on a Mystery Farm Tour.
Programs for the following year
are to be made up on April 17 at
1:30 in the library.
Leona Armstrong and Kathy
Bridge gave the reports on the
program co-ordinator, Tweedsmuir
and the public relations.
Donations are to be made to the
Fall Fair and fire victims, Mr. and
Mrs. McNaul family.
April 28 is the Appreciation night
for the Slice of Huron volunteers at
Seaforth.
