The hamlets of Belgrave and
Bluevale were both considering the
implementation of curbside pickup
for their refuse, but they were on
opposites sides of the decision
when surveys were discussed by
Morris council.
Council, looking at the survey
results during the March 28 meet-
ing, found that 67.09 per cent of
Belgrave residents approved of the
plan while only 50 per cent of
Bluevale occupants wanted pickup.
A level of 52 per cent in favour
had previously been set by council
to determine if the program would
be undertaken.
Beginning April 5, Belgrave resi-
dents will have curbside pickup,
carried out by Carter Disposal of
Wingham, at a cost of 51.30 per
week per household to the town-
ship.
This price was guaranteed for
three years.
The pickup, which will include
garbage weekly and recyclables bi-
weekly (begins April 12), will be
charged to the 19% tax bill at a rate
of S60 per household.
with prayer.
Muriel Coultes conducted the
business. Wilma Higgins reported
on the Spring Event held at
Seaforth. It was decided not to have
lunch after church in April.
The May meeting will be at the
home of Louise Bosman.

guest speaker, Mrs. Leona
Armstrong of Brussels, who is
reeve of Grey Township. She gave
an interesting talk on her
experience in local government.

bounteous pot luck dinner on April
7 at the Belgrave Community
Centre. Following the potluck they
were entertained with a shoot party
with 11 tables in play.
Winners were: high lady, Norma

The difference in the charge will
be offset by a recycling grant.
The results of the survey in Bel-
grave showed that 88 of 131 home
and business owners were in favour
of the program. When tenants were
considered the approval rate rose
higher. The only group with some
opposition was the lot owners
though approval was still very high.
Owners of vacant lots will not be
charged the $60 fee until a resi-
dence is built on the property.
Residents should place their
waste in a tied garbage bag at the
curb by 8:30 a.m. each Wednesday
morning.
Recyclables may be in a blue box
or tied bag.
Blue boxes and recycling infor-
mation can be obtained from the
municipal office.
Large items, such as appliances
or furniture, may still be taken to
the Morris landfill site.
Carter Disposal is also presently
picking up garbage in Walton and
will be asked to pick up recyclables
for the same charge as was given to
Bclgrave.
