Legion hosts
Blyth Branch 420 hosted the
provincial dart playoffs over this
past weekend. Players from all over
the province, competed for the right
to represent Ontario in Chesterville,
Nova Scotia for Dominion Darts
Competition. Blyth Branch 420
won dominion team darts in 1994
but filed for a repeat bid.
Acknowledgement should go to
John, Bill, Andy and Bryan for
guidance in helping to make this a
very successful effort.
Locally Bob Richardson from
Branch 218, Brussels placed third
in singles play. The singles title
went to Branch 629 Latchford in
Northern Ontario.
Eastern Ontario took the other
two titles with the doubles crown
going to Havelock near
Peterborough and Ottawa taking
the team competition.
In other Legion sports news the
youth darts have wound up for
another year. In February at
Lucknow Anita Little placed first
in Junior girls. In Tyke girls Diane
Mason placed third. Cody Mason
Blyth council will be considering
the possibility of reducing the
financial costs to 'the village sewer
system after hearing information
presented at the April 3 meeting.
Reeve Mason Bailey informed
council that he and Acting Clerk
Julie Wheeler had met with offi-
cials of the Ontario Clean Water
Agency. They learned that the vil-
lage still owes $48,000 on the sys-
tem, on which they are paying 12
per cent interest.
The reserve of $20,000 is getting
seven per cent interest.
The question facing council is
whether to deplete the reserve to
reduce the debt and pay off the
remainder at a lower interest rate.
Advice will be sought from the
auditors before a decision is
reached.

The village will approach local

fundraiser
In an effort to raise funds for
graduation expenses and a trip to
Sudbury for their children, the
Grade 8 Parent Group at Blyth Pub-
lic School will host a gigantic yard
sale, bake sale, car wash and barbe-
cue on May 13.
The group is accepting donations
of clothing, furniture, books, toys
or anything else residents would
like to dispose of to benefit the
school.
As well as the many bargains to
be found, a raffle for numerous
items donated by local merchants,
will be held.
Baked goods, hot dogs and ham-
burgers will tempt the palate.
Donated items can be dropped
off at the school or pickup can be
arranged by calling 523-9201 or
523-9635.
The fundraiser runs from 8 a.m.
until 2 p.m., rain or shine.
Councillor Gerald Kerr suggested
that the village garbage pickup be
put up for tender. He and Council-
lor Robbie Lawrie will draw up
specifications to be presented at the
next council meeting.

ing Official Paul Josling to attend a
workshop explaining Minimum
Distance Separation formulae, the
application of which will become
required in rural Ontario under Bill
