Cody Mason Blyth council will be considering the possibility of reducing the financial costs to 'the village sewer system after hearing information presented at the April 3 meeting. Reeve Mason Bailey informed council that he and Acting Clerk Julie Wheeler had met with offi- cials of the Ontario Clean Water Agency. They learned that the vil- lage still owes $48,000 on the sys- tem, on which they are paying 12 per cent interest. The reserve of $20,000 is getting seven per cent interest. The question facing council is whether to deplete the reserve to reduce the debt and pay off the remainder at a lower interest rate. Advice will be sought from the auditors before a decision is reached. *** The village will approach local service organizations to see if they are interested in the grant applica- tion for a Canada Day celebration or for the Canada Day Youth Award. *5* Permission was given to Huron- Bruce Epilepsy to set up a table in the village for a couple of days in August to sell gladiolas. *** A resolution from the Ontairo Federation of Anglers and Hunters opposing the government's action plan on firearms control was sup- ported by council. *** BPS parents plan fundraiser In an effort to raise funds for graduation expenses and a trip to Sudbury for their children, the Grade 8 Parent Group at Blyth Pub- lic School will host a gigantic yard sale, bake sale, car wash and barbe- cue on May 13. The group is accepting donations of clothing, furniture, books, toys or anything else residents would like to dispose of to benefit the school. As well as the many bargains to be found, a raffle for numerous items donated by local merchants, will be held. Baked goods, hot dogs and ham- burgers will tempt the palate. Donated items can be dropped off at the school or pickup can be arranged by calling 523-9201 or 523-9635. The fundraiser runs from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., rain or shine. Councillor Gerald Kerr suggested that the village garbage pickup be put up for tender. He and Council- lor Robbie Lawrie will draw up specifications to be presented at the next council meeting. *5* Council authorized Chief Build- ing Official Paul Josling to attend a workshop explaining Minimum Distance Separation formulae, the application of which will become required in rural Ontario under Bill 163. MDS formulae are used to gener- ate appropriate separation distances between livestock facilities and on- farm uses. *5* A donation of $150 was given to the Belgrave, Blyth, Brussels School Fair Board. *** From the minutes of the Blyth and District Community Center it was noted that the parking lot at the arena will be paved using recycled asphalt.
