Village council honours grant By Bonnie Gropp Despite an unresolved question of debt, Blyth council agreed Mon- day night that a promise is a promise. The concern surrounds an alleged $6,000 owed to the village by Blyth Festival. Representatives from the Festival had appeared before coun- cil at a meeting earlier this year to question the debt saying that they had no record of it. They also told council that a grant, which had been promised to them in May of 1994 was being withheld until the debt is paid. Council was told that on March 23 a phone call was made to the clerk's office requesting the use of council chambers on July 5 for an OMB hearing regarding George Szarek. Councillor Gerald Kerr asked for an explanation as he didn't under- stand what the situation was. Winners were: high lady, Vera Hesselwood; high man, Ted East; ladies' lone hands, Effie McCall; men's lone hands, Ted Fothergill; ladies' low, Blanche Mussche; men's low, Lorne Dale. Mr. and Mrs. James Boyce of Goderich visited with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Daer. Six tables of lost heir were in play at the hall on Wednesday winning. Winners were: high lady, Erma Cook; high gent, Graeme ongoing since March 1991," said Bailey. "Mr. Mitchell (the former village attorney) has been very involved on our behalf as well as Municipal Affairs, Huron County Planning and Maitland Valley." Bailey said it appears that "some- one decided to change the zoning on Mr. Szarek's land so that most of it is flood plain. He has an objection with that, but it won't be rezoned now until OMB says." Councillor Doug Scrimgeour warned that an OMB hearing Continued on page 14 McDowell; low lady, Phyllis Boak; low gent, Mary Walden, playing as a man. Everyone is welcome again next week.
