Elliott The Blyth Bantam hockey team finished off the 1994/95 season in grand style by winning the Western Ontario Amateur Association Group E championship. In what has been described as their best season ever since coming together as a team back in the good ole Novice and Tyke days, the boys won over Zurich in a shortened two out of three series, 10-4 and 4-3. The 10-4 win in Blyth was not- typical of this team's style of winning considering the fact that they led from start to finish. The 4-3 game in Zurich was, however, the boys own style of play as they allowed Zurich to lead the game into the third period with a 3-1 advantage. As they have all year, they turned up the power in the third period to score three unanswered goals for the win. Talk about taking the wind out of your sails. This Bantam team could almost write a book on Great Comebacks in Minor Hockey. A tip of the hat should go to the Zurich team for a fine series and to the fans for the standing ovation at the end of the game. Great sports- manship from first class folks. Blyth Minor Hockey has a lot of great moments to celebrate, so don't forget to come out to the season ending banquet on Saturday, April 8 at the arena. In closing comments of the Correction The report headed "Brussels Atoms take 3", in last week's issue of The Citizen may have caused a bit of confusion. The first paragraph should have read Belgrave Atoms put on a good show in the March 15 Brussels tournament winning all three of their games. The headline should also have claimed Belgrave the winners of three games. W.: regret the error. season...this writer would like to acknowledge those that made up the Blyth Bantam team. The success of a team is a group effort, however, there are some players who have come out week after week and grind away. Without the support and hard work of the team in preparing and maintaining the equipment everything else would be of little value. Here then are those who made up the 94/95 Bantam team and gave fans many hours of enjoyment: Coach, John Blok; trainer, Terry Richmond; manager, Gord Haggitt; goal tenders, Scott Bromley, Jory Elliott; defencemen, Jamie Black, Greg Blok, Jeff Ferguson, Trent Richmond; forwards, Mike Ansley, Kelly Boven, Darryl Bromley, Mike Courtney, Jeff Cowan, Nathan Loder, Mike Haggitt, Mark Wilson. The Brussels Bulls Junior "C" II-Jockey Club ended its regular season in third place. The first round of playoffs was with the Wiarton Wolves. This series the Bulls won the best of five, three games to one. The semi-finals against 'the Hanover Barons was next. This series was the long awaited victory which the club had hoped to do for the past 10 years, winning the best three of five. The finals were next, meeting the Mount Forest Patriots. This series was over in four games with the Patriots remaining the champions. The Brussels Junior "C" Hockey Club executive acknowledge the players, coaching staff, sponsors and fans for their support this past season. The year end pot luck supper will SEE THE SLEDS!
