Couple returns from trip

The Citizen publisher Keith Roulston presents Helen
Stonehouse with a plaque in appreciation for her years of
service and her contribution to the community of
Belgrave. Mrs. Stonehouse was the hamlet's
correspondent for over two decades. She retired earlier
this year.
Final Trinity service set
Paul's Trinity and the Holy
Eucharist celebrated.
After worship the congregation
will share in a pot luck supper.

Mr. and Mrs. Glen Coultes have
returned from a two-week trip at
New Zealand and Australia. While
in Melbourne they visited with
their son, Steve who is an engineer
with a construction company there.
They enjoyed very good weather.
Freda Johnston, Laura Johnston,
Mabel Wheeler and Freda Scott
enjoyed seeing the musical comedy
Crazy For You at the Royal
Alexandra Theatre in Toronto on
Wednesday, March 22.
This year marks the 75th
anniversary of the Belgrave,
Brussels and Blyth School Fair. A
variety concert with local talent is
scheduled for May 26. Anybody
who would have any anecdote or
anything else they would like to
share pertaining to the School Fair
or the East Wawanosh Public
School is asked to contact Mrs.
Linda Campbell 357-2188.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim McCallum and
Jamie and Mrs. Jean Cook visited
with Mr. and Mrs. James Cook and
family of Owen Sound on Tuesday,
March 21.
Euchre was played on Wednes-
day, March 22 in the Women's
Institute Hall.
Winners were: high lady, Agnes
Gaunt; second high lady, Jane
Grasby; lone hands, Aileen Leddy;
low lady, Iona MacLean; high man,
Bob Grasby; second high man, Jim
Coultes; lone hands, Oscar Kieffer,
low man, Jean Paulson, playing as
a man.
The next euchre is Wednesday,
March 29 at 8 p.m.
Knox United Church Board of
Stewards' Pancake Supper is on
Wednesday, April 5.

UCW enjoys
The general meeting of the UCW
of Knox United Church, Belgrave
was held on March 23 at 8 p.m. in
the church school room.
President Wilma Higgins opened
the meeting by reading a poem
"Little Crocus". Donna Shaw
introduced Shawn and Chris
Cottrill, who each played a piano
solo. Louise Bosman opened the
worship with prayer, followed by
hymn 102. Ida Procter read the
poem "An Easter Promise" and
Louise gave the devotion
"Triumphs of the Tomb".
The offering was received and
dedicated. Hymn 107 was sung,
and prayer closed the service.
Lindsay Michie, Candace Irwin
and Margie Gordon gave a very
interesting report on their trip to
Toc Alpha.
Muriel Coultes introduced the
video "Hatch, Match and
Dispatch." The stories of Hannah
and Rizpah were viewed and
discussion followed. Wilma
Higgins thanked Muriel for the
presentation.

talk on antique cars.

12 tables of shoot in play at the
Community Centre.

Chamney; second high lady,
Audrey Edgar; most shoots, Doris
Michie; lucky draws, Ora Bruce,
Jean Pattison, Kay Rich; men's
high, Harvey Edgar; second high
man, Lloyd Appleby; most shoots,
Dennis Leddy; lucky draws, Olive
Bolt and Helen Dougherty, playing
as a man and Lome Jamieson.
The next shoot party is Friday,
April 7 in the Community Centre
starting with a pot luck meal at
12:30 p.m.
Friends and neighbours of the
community extend sincere
sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Howard
Morton, Ian and Heather in the loss
of Judy's mother Mrs. Doris Comba
of Atmonte on March 15. May
thoughts and prayers be with the
Morton family at this time of
sorrow.
Ashley Irwin of Ashfield
township spent a few days at her
grandmother's Mrs. Betty Irwin in
the March break.
Sandra Mayberry of Londesboro
visited on Thursday with Beth
Procter.
Maxine Zettler of RR 4,
Walkerton, Sherri, Amanda and
Alicia visited on Friday and
enjoyed the Shamrock Lunch at the
arena.
Weekend visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Procter were Paul
Smithson and friend of Toronto.
Beth Procter and Mr. and Mrs.
Larry Mayberry of Londesboro
were also guests on Saturday at Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Procter.

The minutes of the last meeting
were read and adopted. Barbara
Anderson gave the treasurer's
report, and a motion was made by
Mabel Wheeler to give $1,500 to
the Manse Fund.
Barbara also gave a report of the
Annual Meeting in Stratford on
Feb. 20.
Wilma Higgins read a letter
outlining the needs for this season
at Camp Menesetung. A decision
about donating was deferred until
the May meeting. Wilma also
mentioned the London Conference
annual meeting.
A motion was made by Laura
Johnston, and seconded by Barbara
Anderson, to purchase two Easter
lilies for the church. A letter from
Lewis Flowers was read by Wilma
Higgins.
The May general meeting will be
held on May 25. Doris Michie is in
charge and the topic is Ken Wood's
trip to China.
Reverend Mary Jane Hobden
closed the meeting with prayer and
lunch was enjoyed.
WI hosts
last meeting
of season
There were 50 members and
friends present for the last
Women's Institute pot luck
luncheon of the season on Tuesday,
March 21. Women's Institute
president Mrs. Dorothy Coultes
welcomed everyone and then she
called upon the Reverend John
Roberts to ask the blessing.
Following the meal, Mrs. Coultes
led in a sing-song of favourite
tunes. She was accompanied on the
piano by Mrs. Gladys Van Camp,
who also read two poems.
Mrs. Van Camp then introduced
Eileen Baker, the guest speaker,
who gave an interesting account of
the cashew nut business which she
and her husband operate out of
their farms in Guatemala and
Bluevale.
Mrs. Baker invited everyone to
sample the cashews and related
products which were greatly
enjoyed. She was thanked and
given a token of appreciation by
Mrs. Van Camp.
Nancy Jardin then favoured
everyone with two poems. Mrs.
Coultes added her thanks to Mrs.
Baker for such an interesting
presentation and also to Mrs. Van
Camp and Mrs. Jardin for their
poems which were greatly
appreciated.
A brief business meeting
followed when members were
reminded of a number of upcoming
events.

Trinity Anglican Church in
Belgrave will take place on May 7.
Trinity is amalgamating with St.
Paul's Anglican in Wingham.
The Rt. Rev. C. Robert
Townshend, Bishop of Georgian
Bay will preside at a service of
Thanksgiving which will begin at
Trinity in Belgrave at 4 p.m.
At about 4:45 the congregation
will load its altar and furnishings
on trucks and drive in procession to
St. Paul's.
At the second half of the service
the church will be renamed St.
