THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22, 1995. Morris council offers grants Murray and Olene Dennis and their grandson Adam were greeters at Duffs United Church on March 19. Heidi McClure and Darrell read the Lenten Liturgy and the third candle was extinguished. After prayers and the opening hymn Rev. Randy Banks announced that next week's Lenten collection will be 10 cents for each disciple that can be named. Patty Banks has the music for Easter service and would like to invite anyone interested in singing in the choir to come out to practise Thursday at 7 p.m. Next Sunday will be muffin and coffee time after the service. Rev. Banks called the young worshippers to the front and Becky Brown helped him put the vines and stems onto the Lenten garden banner. He then told them a story about a TV show called, Candid Camera and how they set up a display of cantaloupes and put up sign that said, "Free". well a person came up and started loading up his arms with cantaloupe. His arms became so full that he dropped all of them. This happened to the other people that came up to the display. Rev. Banks then said that it was a Continued from page 9 back with a shot that got past Brussels' matchless goalie Matt McCall. The game went into overtime but Brussels exploded scoring three goals. Philip Affolter ripped a powerful slapshot past the Blyth goalie on a pass from Christopher Blake, then Oldfield put the puck by the Blyth goalie on a pass from Marc Fischer. Affolter got one more when he slid it under the Blyth goalie with assists going to Oldfield and Krotz. In game two Brussels-travelled to Blyth and Nolan Krotz opened up the scoring two minutes into the game. Stephen Todd then scored a goal from a pass by Chris Coulter. In the second period Krotz got by the Blyth players scoring on a pass from Oldfield. Blyth cleared the way as Affolter wound up for the shot then blew it by the defenceless goalie, with the assist going to Marc Hunter and Fischer. In the third period once again Oldfield scored with the assist going to Krotz, then Blyth broke McCall's shutout, with their only goal of the game. One minute later Oldfield blasted in another goal for the Brussels team. With four minutes left in the third period Coulter scored off a pass by Blake. Todd scored again case of 'less is more.' If the people would have just taken a few then they would have had some and there would have been enough for other people. But people seem to have trouble with just taking enough. That is something that we could all work on this time of Lent, he said. Rev. Banks' sermon was called, "Why ask why?" He asked if anyone wanted to know the secret of how to silence a preacher. His answer was to ask this question or some variation of it: "Why does God allow bad things to happen?" Every preacher and philosopher has taken a run at the question, but no one has ever produced the universally satisfying and definitive answer. Rev. Banks concluded with a question of his own - "Why ask why?" The most urgent question is whether we will remain in a relationship of complete faith, trust, and confidence in God through all the changing scenes of life. The Sunday School children and their families enjoyed an hour of skating after church. They then went back to the church for some hot chocolate and doughnuts. when Coulter passed it after receiving the puck into the net once more to complete his hat-trick with 29 seconds left in the game. The third game was back in Brussels on Friday, March 17 and once again Krotz opened up the scoring with assists going to Oldfield and Hunter. Next Affolter scored on a pass from Hunter and Oldfield. Then Oldfield scored on a breakaway giving the Blyth defenceman no chance to outskate A bylaw was passed, at the March 7 meeting of Morris council, to authorize an agreement for the demolition of a barn on South Part Lot 8, Conc. 4. The agreement will be registered on title and the costs paid by Bod- min Ltd. George Procter attended the meeting to review the proposed agreement. He had no objections and signed the paper. A motion was passed stating that any councillor who declares 'a pecuniary interest should leave the council chambers during discus- sions on that matter. People Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Woods of Gananoque, in Seaforth recently were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Stephenson of Rexdale and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hackwell of Walton. . Once again fun was had by all at the good old Walton Hall with a house full one more time for the St. Patrick's Dance. People attended from Arthur, Mitchell, Wingham, Varna, Luck- now, Belgrave, Kitchener and Listowel as well as and other centres. There were all kinds of interesting dances such as the 'Deaf and Dumb Dance.' Door prize winners were Allan Searle, Don Newman and Ethel Bott. There will be another old time dance in April. him. With 14 seconds left in the second, Coulter scored with assists going to Todd and Blake. Blake notched the last goal for Brussels on a deflection off a Blyth skate. Blyth got on the scoreboard in the third period with two goals which ended the game 5-2 for the Brussels team. Brussels Atom Rep are now the WOAA Southern Champions. Congratulations! Several grants were approved by council. After an initial suggestion by Councillor John Duskocy that the Blyth Theatre receive no grant, a motion for $100 was carried.
