Watched pot Cathy Cardiff keeps an eye on the pot, while husband Jeff tends to the barbecue, when Cardiff's Catering cooked up a delicious feast for the annual Huron Beef Producers banquet in Brussels on Saturday. On the menu was, of course, roast beef, which was served up to a sell-out crowd of 475. Melville group meets at home of G. Gibson The March meeting of Melville Presbyterian Church, Brussels, was held at the home of Mrs. Gerald Gibson. The President, Helen Elliott, opened the meeting with prayer. An Easter hymn was read in unison. Mrs. Thelma Cardiff read the scripture, Matthew, Chapter 4 verses 1 to 11, on the temptation of Jesus. Mrs. Elliott had a reading based on Lent. followed by prayer. She also read about four different religions. Another Easter hymn was sung. Mrs. Cardiff read the secretary's report and Mrs. Steiss gave the treasurer's report in the absence of Mrs. Leona Armstrong. After a short business period, the meeting closed by repeating the Mizpah Benediction. A tasty lunch was served by Mrs. Elliott and Mrs. Gibson. Ladies' curling season ends The Tuesday afternoon ladies curling ended March 7. The last regular game was curled in the morning followed by a meal of Chester Fried chicken, the annual meeting, and a fun game of curling in the afternoon. The winners of the last draw were first, 44 points, Linda Saur, Marg Taylor, Gloria Wilbee and Doris Fischer; second, 43 points, Jane Zwep, Fran Bremner, Sheron Stadelmann and Mary Bernard; third, 40.5 points, Heidi McClure, Valerie Shortreed, Marie Stute and Sharon Brown. The new executive for 1995-96 is: past president, Brenda Linton; president, Mary Bernard; first vice president, JoAnn McDonald; second vice president, Gloria Wilbee; third vice president, Jane Zwep; secretary-treasurer, Velma Locking; draw committee, Valerie Shortreed, Heidi McClure, Marianne Warwick; kitchen committee, Jean Bewley, Sharon Brown; press reporter, Velma Locking. The last draw of the mixed curling ended March 13. The top teams were first, 45 points, JoAnn McDonald, Mary TenPas, Dona Knight and Bob Alexander; second, 44 points, Tom Warwick, Nora Stephenson, Glen Warwick and Sandra Clark; third, 42.5 points, Mary Bernard, Bill Clark, Ernie Lewington and Trevor Bowles. The annual pot luck dinner and social evening is being held March 25 at 7 o'clock with a social hour from 6 to 7 p.m. Congratulations Jason on earning the Founder's Scholarship Award We're proud of you Love, Mom, Dad, Nic, Ashley and Joshua Brussels People Jeff Huether and the Brampton Minor Bantam AA Hockey Club will be competing in the OMHA championships against either Barrie or Aurora. Brampton eliminated St. Cathar- ines, Oakville and Orangeville to reach the finals. In playoff action they have a record of nine wins and two losses. The team will finish up the year by participating in the Barrie tournament. This is the fourth year in a row that the team has reached the championship. Kevin Huether's Brampton Major PeeWee AAA hockey team recently was defeated in the OMHA semi-final tournament held at Chinguacousy. There was a good attendance of members. It was reported by Gertie Kellington that the winner of the United Nations Speak Off was Erica Clark of Central Huron Secondary School.
