Belgrave Atoms nip Brussels to advance In three straight Belgrave Atom flouseleague team defeated Brus- sels to move on to the next leg of playoffs. Game three was played in Brus- sels on March 7, with Belgrave leading the series by two. The first period ended in a tie when Lee Dil- worth notched one for the home team, assisted by Mark Hunter and Darrell McClure, while Justin Campbell claimed one for the visi- tors. Paul Walker earned the assist. The second period had little change with each team again adding one more. Credit for Brus- sels went to Devon Bilyer, assisted by McClure and Hunter, while Campbell set up Garrett Knight to score for the visitors. The third period broke the rou- tine, however, when Hunter scored the only goal for Brussels, while Be!grave's offensive managed three more to give them a 5-3 win. Scor- ing for Belgrave were Campbell, two, and Knight, assisted by Camp- bell. Between the pipes for Belgrave was Travis Campbell. A $375,000 project in the Town of Seaforth has been approved under the Canada/Ontario Infra- structure Works program, Huron- Bruce MP Paul Steckle, Huron MPP Paul Klopp and Mayor Irwin Johnston announced March 10. Funding will be used to preserve and upgrade the Seaforth Branch Library. The 82-year-old building will undergo major internal and external renovations including wheel chair accessible and new mechanical and electrical equip- ment to improve energy efficiency. Work on this project, expected to create 226 person-weeks of short- term employment, begins this spring and should be completed by spring of 1996. "Bringing this national program home to the Town of Seaforth ensures that the residents will benefit from this local improVe- ment, since the municipality determines where the infrastructure dollars are best spent," said Mr. Stccklc. "The jobs will be a boost to the local economy in Seaforth," said Mr. Klopp. "I am pleased that the municipality will benefit directly from the work being carried out on the Seaforth Branch Library - not only by improving service and energy efficiency, but through the preservation of this historical landmark as well." "Due to tough budget constraints, the Town of Seaforth has found it impossible to make the necessary improvements to this building," said Mr. Johnston. "Thanks to this funding, we're now able to make these renovations." This project is in addition to the three projects worth $173,000 announced on Oct. 12, 1994 to create 104 person-weeks of short term employment. Canada/Ontario Infrastructure Works is a $2.1 billion shared-cost program designed to create jobs through local priority projects which will improve the province's infrastructure and therefore its competitive position. Canada, Ontario and local partners are each contributing one-third of the program funding. The program, which is expected to create up to 37,000 direct and indirect jobs, is a positive example of the federal, provincial and local levels of government working co- operatively to foster economic development and growth. The Brussels Bulls season ended Saturday night but the home team did not go down quietly. Trailing the Western Junior 'C' final three games to none to the Mt. Forest Patriots, the Bulls played their strongest game of the series, but came up short losing 3 - 2 in sudden death overtime. The Bulls opened the scoring eight minutes into the game on a powerplay goal by Captain Greg McNevan. Mt. Forest responded with a disputed goal. It appeared Bulls' defenceman Josh Alexander had scooped the puck away before it crossed the goal line and the goal judge agreed, but the man with the final say, referee Tom Gillespie signalled it had crossed the line. Paul Galbraith notched the Pats' goal, then Kevin Ball responded for the Bulls. The game remained tied 2-2 until the end of regulation. Bulls' goalie Ryan Fisk played outstanding despite an ankle injury suffered in game one. Fisk stoned the Patriots high scoring winger Mike Bowden on a penalty shot in the dying minutes of the game to keep the Brussels hopes alive. But Fisk and the rest of the Bulls were heartbroken when at 6:57 of overtime a pass out from the corner by Jeff Rahn bounced off a player in front of the net, hit the post and trickled across the goal line. "We showed a lot of pride and character battling hard to the end," Adam McClure scoring the rest. On defence were Andrew MacDonald, Nathan Prior and Tommy Cronin. In net was Christopher Jutzi making some great stops when needed. The Brussels Tykes thank their coach Tim Prior for his time and patience, as well as their parents.
