good crowd out despite the rainy,

Brownies earn badges, pins
On Monday, March 6 some
parents and the pupils of East
Wawanosh Public School in Grades
5, 6, 7 and 8 boarded the bus at 7
a.m. and headed for Talisman Ski
Resort at Kimberly. It was a busy
day with over 700 students there
attending from different schools.
Before departing the buses the
students were given rules and
regulations on the Mountain
Resort. After being decked out with
boots, skis and poles they were
given lessons which they had to
pass in order to go on certain hills
and the chair lifts. You can ski and
The Evening Unit of the United
Church Women met at the home of
Mrs. Doris Michie on March 7. The
evening began with Shawn Cottrill
saying his speech on "Super-
stitions" for which he came first in
the Grade 5 level.
The roll call was answered by
members telling what superstitions
they had.
Sheila Nixon prepared the
worship service. Hymns More Love
to Thee and Savior Like a Shepherd
On Friday, March 10 there was a
shoot party at the Belgrave
Community Centre.
Winners were: high lady, Aileen
Leddy; second high lady, Nell
Johnston; most shoots, Mary
Taylor; ladies' low, Cora Clayton;
men's high, Ab Cook; second high
man, Marj Coultes, playing as a
man; most shoots, Stuart Chamney;

draws, Doris Michie, Stanley
Black, Agnes Bieman, Kay Rich.
The next shoot party will be
March 24 at 1:30 p.m.
There were seven tables of
euchre in play at the Women's
Institute Hall on Wednesday,
March 8.
Winners were: high lady, Mary
Taylor; second high lady, Lois
snowboard just about anywhere on
the mountain thanks to a well
balanced mix of beginner, inter-
mediate and expert terrain serviced
by nine lifts (so there's no waiting
in lift lines).
From a top elevation of 1,525
feet with a vertical drop of over
600 ft. you'll enjoy 20 trails
overlooking some of the most
breathtaking scenery in Ontario.
After a bright sunny day of
skiing they returned back to the
school by 6:30 p.m. Everyone had
a very enjoyable day with no
accidents to report.

The scriptures were from
Proverbs 15: 6-8 and Samuel 12
verses 22 and 23. The worship
closed with a meditation and
prayer.
Laura Johnston presented the
program "Gives Us Laughter or
Humour in the Church". The
meeting closed with the
benedictions.

Jane Hobden and and Jane Grasby.

The WMS held its meeting
Monday, March 6 at the home of
Mrs. Hazel Dalrymple.
The meeting was opened with the
WMS purpose. The hymn All
People that On Earth Do Dwell.
was sung. Mrs. Ivy Cloakey read
scripture from Luke 12. Mrs. Ora
Bruce led in prayer. Mrs. Margaret
Siertsema gave the secretary's
report and Mrs. Cloakey the
treasurer's report.

March 8. Those attending were

The school community of F.E.
Madill Secondary School in Wing-
ham is making an effort to strength-
en and promote partnerships
between the community and the
school through the Community
Links council.
CLC met on Feb. 21 to discuss
partnerships which have already
been developed in the community
and the leaps in technology which
are visible in the classroom.
There was an agreement that it
takes the entire community as well
as schools and parents to raise chil-
dren.
The government has provided. a
common curriculum which sets
benchmarks for math and lan-
guages.
The purpose of schooling is to
provide young adults with high lev-
els of literacy, developed problem-
solving skills, responsibility,
preparation for employment and
suitable content learned from all
courses. _
The business centre, which is
operated by the students, does
office work for teachers and the
community.
The library has InterNet access
for research.
A satellite ground station is
going to the geography department
to allow the student to study real

Mrs. Alice Nicholson gave a
report on the annual meeting in
January. Mrs. Siertsema read a
story by Francis Nugent "To a
Better Life". Mrs. Nicholson read a
story on how a married couple
saved their marriage by sharing and
thinking more of others. Mrs. Freda
Scott read a poem, "Thank You
Lord". Mrs. Irene Schultz read a
Pletch, Meagan and Ben; Sandra
Dorsch and Melinda.
The topic discussed was self
esteem. Rev. Mary Jane Hobden
arrived after Bible Study.
Refreshments were served and a
social time followed. There will be
no Mabel's Moms in the March
break. It will resume again on
Wednesday, March 29 at 10 a.m.

Manufacturing, construction,
transportation and communications
are all a part of the Tech area,
which provides the student the
opportunity to use computer assist-
ed, computer-controlled and tradi-
tional equipment.
Computers are being used in the
English department for word pro-
cessing, research and the develop-
ment of communication skills.
Plans for the future include net-
working the school for access to the
library from the classroom and
videoconferencing.
The next meeting will be held on
April 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the library
at F.E. Madill Secondary School in
Wingham.
A tour of the business and tech
areas will be held.

The Guides helped the girls with
a craft, a Leprechaun pin for St.
Patrick's Day.
They did a "Campfire" where
they sat around and sang songs and
did a game on World Centres.
There will be no Brownie
meetings over the March break.
The next Brownie meeting will be
Thursday, March 30.

Mrs. Nicholson reminded
members of the quilt show and sale
on July 1 at Camp Kintail. They
need donated quilts and the money
will go towards building a health
centre at the camp.
What a Friend We Have in Jesus
was sung. Mrs. Nicholson thanked
Mrs. Dalrymple for the use of her
home. The hostess then served
lunch.
