Myron Hussey was the Grade 6 winner and the overall junior division winner with his speech on "Habits". Shawn Cottrill was the Grade 5 winner with his speech on "Superstitions" and Keri Meier was the Grade 4 winner with her speech on "My Dog Bruno". Mr. and Mrs. Maitland Edgar, Petrolia and Mrs. Winnifred Johnston of Braemar visited on Saturday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse. Mr. and Mrs. Geoff Viglianti, Stephanie and Michele, Mr. and Mrs. Brian Shaw, Mark and Graeme and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gethke and Shawn had a family gathering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Les Shaw. It was to celebrate Michele's birthday. Mrs. Ruth Johnston attended the 80th birthday party for Miss Mary McIntosh of Listowel on Sunday, March 5. Mr. and Mrs. Chester MacDonald of Goderich were dinner guest on Saturday, March 4 at Mrs. Ruth Johnston's. A Belgrave couple will appear on national television next Thursday, March 9 to present a puppet to Dini Petty. Don and Mary Vair, owners and originators of "Personality Plus Puppets" travel to Toronto next Wednesday, March 8 to tape the program which will air on the next day, Thursday at 10 a.m. over the Baton Broadcast System, Channel 8. When contacted late last week Mr. Vair said he believes he and his wife will appear on the program right off the start. They will be presenting Ms. Petty with a 36 inch puppet in her own likeness. Mr. Vair, who worked at CKNX TV for 20 years and moonlights as entertainer "Country Clem", is no stranger to show business. However, he admits to being excited about the chance to be seen on a nationally-syndicated television program. Mainly it will be fun and secondly, their appearance could be a real boost for "Personality Plus Puppets", which was formed one year ago. Vince Makas and Alicia and her friend Meagan Grover of London visited on the weekend with Mabel Wheeler. Bill and Muriel Coultes and Mrs. Elizabeth Stobo visited on the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Davis of Calgary. On Saturday Mrs. Coultes met with Calgary Presbyterial United Church Women for the annual meeting and conducted a workshop. On Sunday all were able to travel to Banff and Lake Louise to see the sights. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grasby accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Gary Leitch on a 12 day vacation to Mission, Texas. They visited with their granddaughter Julie and her husband, Michael Hobgood and enjoyed 85° weather. PAGE 8. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 8, 1995. On behalf of the board of stewards from Calvin Brick and Knox United Church are grateful for the support at the skate-a-thon on Friday, March 3. This event was a success because of all those who helped. The winners were: youngest skater, Tyler Stevenson (23 months); oldest not so young skater, Barbara Anderson. Pledge sheets may be turned in at East Wawanosh Public School on Friday, March 10 from 8:45 - 10 a.m. or at Sunday School by March 12. Belgrave United Church hosts World Day of Prayer On Sunday, March 5 the ladies from the 4th line held a community shower for Kate Procter at the Institute Hall. Marie McIntosh welcomed everyone to the shower and thanked everyone for coming. She then told a few jokes followed by a reading from Alice Nicholson. Diane Jerva presented a most entertaining poem that she had written all about Kate followed by another poem, "You can do it anywhere". (Get Married that is.) Kate opened her much appre- ciated gifts and thanked everyone graciously, for the gifts as well as the ladies who were responsible for the shower. Games of "How well do you know the Bride" were won by Mary Hunter, Alice Nicholson and Elizabeth Procter. The other game was filling in the square with gifts that Kate would receive that day. As she opened her gifts, items were stroked off. Bingo winners were Corrie Sanders, Irene Lamont, Donna Shaw and Linda Campbell. After grace by Marie McIntosh, a delightful smorgasbord lunch was served and a social time followed. Melina Hussey took the Grade 8 and senior overall title at the public speaking competition held at East Wawanosh Public School with her topic "Coping with Tragedy". Danielle Thompson was the Grade The Brownies held their meeting on Thursday, March 2 at the East Wawanosh Public School. Lila Procter was their guest soloist. The Brownies arc working on their singers badges. Three of the Brownies, joined the Girl Guides at their meeting. On Saturday, March 4 the Seniors bowling scores for Wednesday, March 1 were: men - George Michie, 134 and 161; Clarence McCallum, 103, 114 and 109; Ken Saxton, 107, 102 and 146; Gord Louttit, 101, 71 and 151; Ray Neil, 170, 128 and 141; Bob Corbert, 122, 114 and 92; Hap Brownies went snowshoeing at the Wawanosh Nature Centre. They played an Inuit game of camou- flage as well as worked on their winter snow sports badge. The Brownies will be receiving their badges on Thursday, March 9. On Wednesday, Feb. 22 "Thinking Day" the Belgrave Girl Guides were guests at an Swatridge, 211, 211 and 207; ladies - Louise Bosman, 128 and 318; Annie Cook, 128 and 77; Evelyn Galbraith, 92; Eleanor Neill, 71; Kay McCormick, 132' and 163; Irene Lamont, 169 and 128; Betty Irwin, 109 and 66; Wendy Hicks, 110 and 158; Doris Michic, 130 International pot luck supper with the Teeswater Girl Guides. Dishes from many different countries were enjoyed by all. Recently the 1st Belgrave Girl Guides created snow sculptures at the Belgrave Arena and painted them by candlelight. The Calvin Brick, Presbyterian, Anglican and Knox United women ?resented the program prepared by the Christian Women of Ghana with the theme "The Earth is a House for all People". Winners were: high lady, Agnes Bieman; second high lady, Mary Taylor; most lone hands, June Grasby; low lady, Ruth Johnston; The County of Huron has received an award for excellence for Economic Development literature at the Annual Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO) "Ontario Marketing Awards" Competition. The county's entry, the 1994 Huron County Travel Guide was awarded a second prize in category "Special Purpose Brochures" at EDCO's Annual Meeting in Toronto, Jan. 26. There were over 197 entries in 16 categories. "I've always been a solid supporter of tourism and our economic development program" said Warden Bruce Machan, and this award clearly indicates that we're doing the right things. Growth, Prosperity, jobs for our people - that's the bottom line. That's what the county is working toward." "With tourism as the county's second largest economic generator, we are pleased that the county's efforts are being recognized provincially," he said.
